Not quite : The rule states "I before E except after C" - you obviously failed to hear the exception.

"I before E, except after C, if it rhymes with me" to be precise!

More words actually break the rule so it isn't taught anymore.
    Meanwhile back to SKP...

SKP is currently sat in the shed, awaiting another fire to be lit in the morning...
Did a couple of little jobs on her today, a few out of an ever decreasing 'shakedown' list, all of the Gauge Frame Spindles replaced (including one Klinger which had split), Intermediate Reservoir pipe couplings removed filed out to a better vac-tight fit-it and replaced, Cylinder cock steam valve un-seized, and the boiler gang have been rattling around the front end a little bit.
Things left to do, from what I can remember of this list I know some of the brakes on the tender need adjusting, slacking hose needs manufacturing and fitting as well as the tender coal spray, the drivers seat also needs making!
    Regards

    Tom

Another day in the shed (and I do all this for nothing; I must be mad!)
Boiler filled on SKP, and I lit the fire this afternoon, just had a pint in the Railwayman's whilst chewing on the sulphur emitting from the big Bulleid chimney...

Spent the rest of the day prepping 43106 for service and crawling around under 5164 helping to dismantle motion/brake-rigging/other bits and bobs ready for its turn on the wheeldrop...

Time for a shower, back to working for a living tomorrow (Sigh)

    Tom

With 5164 out Tom, could SKP be pressed into service, or does it need undertake some LE running in first?

There are still some outstanding jobs and 'fettling', and the SVR is very fastidious about running in before letting a loco out on full line running especially with paying punters in tow, so I'd say not. Hopefully 5164 won't be too long out, and 1501 is starting to look very, very snazzy in the paintshop...

It has been worse on the SVR motive-power wise, but they head into the peak season with four steam locomotives available. Diesel followers take note....

It would be entirely out of character for the SVR to put SKP on a service train before thorough running in. The closest you are likely to see is it being tagged on with 4566, but that won't happen before light proving runs take place.

On the loco front, don't forget that 2857's boiler will be returning to the frames imminently. As 28 has already spent around 7 months in active service, she won't require running in beyond a trip to Highley and back to make sure that everything is in the right place.

I suppose it's too much to hope for NCB red on 1501. :)
