There are some news concerning the project "Rail to Grantown".

Hopefully the scottish government realizes the importance of this development.

I think they do, but with block grant funding a few million given here means cutting an equal sum from elsewhere.

Its a big ask and I suspect more private cash is needed.

RTG would be wise to set up a monthly subscription service for 5 quid a month or so. That would help matters along a little, but it all helps.

Good news. Have there been any developments on the Grantown project?

The planned development of Rails to Grantown can be seen in the following presentation. They plan to do some smaller visible projects in 2019.

Some details of the Project Undercover can be found on page 5 (the whole Newsletter is worth reading)

Why is the railway going under the road? How high is the road going to be elevated?
I’m a bit confused. Is the railway embankment on the Granton side going to remain or will it be levelled.....?

£2m is a lot to find, but it’s great to hear that that is one of the last remaining impediments.
    It’s a small fortune, but it’s do-able.

Good to see they are also making plans to develop Boat of Garten as more of a visitor attraction. The key to increasing secondary spend (i.e. catering and retail etc) is to keep visitors on your premises long enough to become hungry and thirsty. ;):). A simple train ride isn't always enough.

It's a real shame that I see a heritage railway that has had its act together for a very long time and has the will and the means to reach its end point (grantown) but will be kept in Purgatory for the indefinite future by the government who can't upgrade a feckin' road. At least they are keeping themselves busy with the shed and other things, I do get the feeling it will look rather rubbish compared to the rather wonderful aviemore loco shed, hopefully in the future when some of the more prosperous railways are done with throwing up sheds as quick as possible to get rolling stock under-cover they can focus on consolidation and making them look more in keeping.

For those wondering, I believe the grantown east 'highland cultural centre' has been open for a few months now, it does look rather neat and I think they made a good job of preserving some of what was left, take the 'cultural' name with a pinch of salt, they offer Italian coffee and woodfired pizza, I say it's not cultural because neither of the items are deep fried ;), I jest, it's a good place to while away some time if you're passing through. They have a miniature railway on site so it still serves its purpose!

Well that's is the precise issue. The Scottish Government have been so busy building the Queensferry Crossing, linking the M8/M74, dulling the A9 and building the 40 year delayed AWPR that this particular project is falling by the wayside.

Members of said government are however attending and engaging with Rails to Grantown and are supportive of the project.
