    Hi all

Sorry if this has been posted here before but I have just come across this

    http://prrt1steamlocomotivetrust.org/index.php

I am very interested in steam technology, and the reason I wanted to bring this to your attention is the fact that these guys want a crack at the steam world record currently held by you know who.

I was just wondering if one of these new builds in the UK could or would go for the steam speed record and push the speed higher?

    what do you all think?

    Regards

    Colin Rainsbury

Whilst I think that the T1 was a masterpiece of design and engineering and is quite possibly capable of doing the speed, I doubt very much that any railway in the USA would let them loose to try it out. Shame really.

    To quote a respected Engineer:-

Looking at the speeds contemplated it seems to me that it requires that the parts should be on a scale more commensurate with the velocity to be attained. I suggest a wheel diameter of eight or even ten foot and a track gauge half as wide again to that currently adopted.

Replica of Mars streamliner or even Hurricane if no load required to be hauled?

Not sure where to lay the necessary track though!

It's feasible if the Americans build a PRR T1 (I too hoped it was an LSWR one!) they could have a crack at the record on the AAR test facility in Pueblo, Colorado (http://www.aar.com/tracks.php). Not sure they've got a long enough straight section though.

The question is, if successful, will this persuade the NRM to re-steam Mallard? :D

I'm sure the 229 club would be itching to have a go too, and when there are two NRM locos going, one might as well take the restored 21c29 as well...

Woops! I didn't realise that's what the 6229 supporters call themselves.
