Ok, as a few of you may have noticed from David's recent press release i'm going to take up some filming at the Tanfield Railway during the first half of 2010 for 'Steaming Around Yorkshire'...

I wanted to get some background knowledge about the railway, i've never visited before, basically I wanted to learn about what steam engines are currently available there?
    Are line side passes available?
What are general photo locations like?

I'm returning back up to Sunderland this coming weekend so will try make it across to give something a go the following weekend with a bit of luck :p

    Many thanks in advance.
    Simon

    Hi Simon

Plenty of really good locations, locos currently in traffic are Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0ST Renishaw Ironworks No. 6, Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn 0-4-0ST Sir Cecil A Cochrane and Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn 'Austerity' 0-6-0ST No. 49 with Robert Stephenson 0-6-0T No. 3 Twizell due to join them in the not too distant future.

Generally speaking the vast majority of good locations are from public footpaths and areas such as the engine shed are publicly accessible but if you have anything specific you're after drop me a PM and we can discuss.

You will have a great time. Friendly guys, great thrash, easy access and some lovely rolling stock (which looked very nice on Cranford - which I watched tonight). Best time to go is on a coal train day ideally with No.49 and a wet rail! Don't forget to visit Bowes whilst in the area - another lovely railway which puts on a very good show on coal train days.
