Looking forward to seeing Tornado on the GWML this Saturday.

I'll be at Cholsey where visiting Austerity 'Cumbria' will be sat in the C&WR bay as the A1 steam through. There should be a good exchange of chime whistles! 'Cumbria' will be operating trains all day on Saturday and Sunday this weekend so why not combine a ride with watching some main line steam! Here is a quick film of her in action last weekend which went out on the local TV news: http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/oxford/hi/people_and_places/history/newsid_8337000/8337920.stm

Details of our trains at www.cholsey-wallingford-railway.com

Anybody know if Tornado is booked main or relief from Didcot to Reading?

We should be in the Surrey Hills. We did consider trying to see her on the GWML as well but she has very quick watering stops.

Tornado is 13.33 off Didcot and due to pass Reading at 13.49. There's an FGW stopper due off Didcot 2 minutes before Tornado at 13.31 which is not due into Reading until 13.59, so it looks as though Tornado may be on the main line. Of course, If you're really unlucky, the stopper will be in Cholsey station blocking the view of/from Cumbria as Tornado passes.

As it's a Pathfinder tour it could be the rainbow set. Let's hope that I'm wrong. <BJ>

I gather it is most likely to be the chocolate and cream Mk1s as the 'Royal Scot' set is on a UK Railtours charter up on the Blyth and Tyne route. Hope this helps.

I don't think it really matters to the most important people (those that have paid to ride in the stock). I guess you'll just have to Photo Shop it.

Not really, colour does not matter to those on board, was does matter is the condition of the stock. Some of it is in terrible condition.

It is a shame that most sets dont live up to the Vintage Trains one.

Not so long ago Nat Pres was full of helpful friendly people who enjoyed all aspects of the hobby, let's just say those days seemed to have passed and it now seems to attract narrow minded, arm chair based critics with nothing better to do than pick holes and make stupid inaccurate statements, a sad state.

I asked a simple question it only needed a simple answer.

If anyone is interested, the simple answer is some maroons but maily brown/cream and a mixture of Mk1's and 2's, plus a generator van.

Duke71000 thank you for a sensible resposne, you're in the minority!

Matt, Sorry if I upset you by my reply, but you obviously didn't see the smiley at the top of my post.
And you have no doubt never seen my posts on here and other places praising photters for their efforts.
As I've said repeatedley, if people like you didn't make the effort to get out into all sorts of places in all weathers and then publish your pics on the web, then we people who are support crew would never get to see the results of our efforts.
As for me being an armchair critic you couldn't be further from the truth. I put in about 21 hours a week as a volunteer at TYS and some weeks I do more hours than I used to do before I retired from regular work.
I will admit to being narrow minded in that I think the GWR was the best railway in the world!!!

Getting back to the suject, did Tornado get away from Gloucester on time?

Any updates would be appreciated, hoping to catch her round the Surrey hills later.

    Thanks

Me too. I always post here on the trips heading out of London when we have seen them in the hope that it helps others further away, so it would be good to be on the other end of the trip today
