Excellent shot Eliot despite that most frustrating of clouds! Thanks for sharing.

Seemed like an excellent performance from 5407 yesterday - 12 is a fair load for a '5' over the drag but she never looked in any trouble, rock solid throughout.

    Hello all

93 Pictures here from the Waverley trip yesterday:
    http://www.blackhatrailwaypictures.co.uk/p864602061

    Report:

Sunshine, Steam and Scenery, it doesnt get much better than that.... except that
this time the journey was to be across the Settle to Carlisle railway, with
fantastic views across areas such as the three peaks, Ribblehead, Mallerstang,
    and others en route.

The engine was none other than Rileys reliable machine 45407 the Lancashire
Fusilier, which stormed over the route with some fair degree of magesty
considering the considerable load that the engine was asked to haul over the
grueling route. Arrival in Carlisle saw the engine leave to be turned and fueled
while I and friends opted for a similar idea.

Back on the train and the journey retracing our same route south again saw great
performances from the engine. Its return to the mainline following overhaul in
100 days is a testamount to I Riley Engineering and there fantastic machine.

The day ended at York, with some final views of the engine, before then heading
for home after a long and enjoyable day.

    Also,

Other pictures from Carlisle have been uploaded to the site featuring trips
there in recent years at http://www.blackhatrailwaypictures.co.uk/f587502403

Nice shot Eliot, I was almost at the same spot for 45407 and 45305 the day before and both times the sun disapeared for a minute as the train passed!!!!
Very good performance with that load, 45407 was not much slower at that point than 45305 with 2 coaches less.

I think Birkett must be cursed... I've tried the same shot several times and no matter when I go there is always some cloud that gets in the way...

I thought I'd cracked it last year with the 8F but as it approached the bridge the smallest puff came too...
    The joys of photography...

Think your best booking as the train was very busy. Scarborough Spa Express has very little set aside now for pay on the day too. Would seriously consider booking, even if you had to collect tickets as boarding. Best phone either Railway touring company or WCRC depending on which tour.

This'll be the 46115 that failed today on the Fellsman with firebox problems, surely throws some doubt on it being out on Saturday?

So,shall I dare mention the CME? um N.D.said 46201...........As 5944 lets hope nothing too serious.
