That's your opinion, and that's fine. BUT... I disagree!

You all seem to have missed out 47327 at Butterley, which goes out on a rather regular basis to many other railways...

Now that statement equates to utter bolleau. And typical of a belief that is sadly prevelant.

HIT have not effectively killed off Thomas - the heritage railway industry has self-destructed on Thomas events over apparent draconian measures required by the franchise owner.

Tell me, do you have much involvement with the sharp end of running a railway?

I could have sworn that I drove a blue engine not so long ago. It was towing a couple of coaches with female names and it had a big '1' on the side tanks.

The converted austerity on the MHR was formerly No 26 Linda on the K&ESR. Coventry No 1 has big tanks, at a guess on a par with a Jinty but would not really be suitable for 25mph running over any distance. The best bet if you want to run trains at 25mph over any sort of mileage would probably be a Jinty.

From a financial side the royalties on Thomas events have been increased again and now stand at (I believe) 18% of revenue, and in addition the licence holders state that you must have a one-off charge to enter the site. If that is the case then VAT applies to the entrance fee as this is no longer a public transport ride from A to B ie:- another 15% (17.5% from 1.1.10),
So if you are a heritage railway then the figures don't stack up, and if you aren't declaring the VAT side then beware the VAT man.

Figures seem to stack up quite well for us (and yes that includes declaring the VAT)

There's also a Ruston 48DS diesel disguised as "Toby", which has been at the GCR for a while now (not sure why, think we were just the last railway to hire it).

Well there used to be one on static display at Carnforth Steamtown, but that was well over 10 years ago and it was outside so weathering fast. Does anyone remember it and what happened to it?

Linda was Percy for a while when it first moved to the MHR before being converted to Thomas. Do I get a prize?!
