Just seen some pictures of a miniature railway that used to run at New Brighton, until the mid sixties I believe, the Tommy Mann Express. Seemed to be one of the attractions at a theme park/fun fair.

Do any of the locomotives or rolling stock still exist? I think they were 18in gauge?

Yes, the 4-4-2 was at Cleethorpes and the "Sentinel" is also around, possibly something to do with Ashover Ithink. The Ruston is also somewhere.

There was a booklet, "Uncle Tommy's Kiddies Railway" prodiced about 30 years ago, well worth looking out for

There's quite a lot of info (and photos) on the net. The coaches (which went to Ravenglass after closure) came from the Jaywick Rly so the NGRS booklet on the Jaywick also covers Tommy Mann's Rly. Riding on it was always the highlight of a day trip to New Brighton.
    Ray.

The Ruston is at Waltham Abbey.

From the photos I have seen on the net, looks like there was the 4-4-2, a sentinel, and a tank locomotive.

Is the tank loco still around? If it wasn't for the steam coming from the chimney I would have thought it was a steam outline diesel.

The "tank loco" is I believe the same loco referred to above as the Sentinel, which is now in Derbyshire. It started life at Jaywick as a Sentinel look-a-like, went to New Brighton where it ran initially in the same form, but it was later rebuilt there to look as if it had a conventional boiler (but it was always actually a vertical boilered vertical cylindered loco I think - open to c0rrection on that).

Ah that would explain why it didn't look quite right...
