Irrespective of Bryn engineering being mentioned in posts on here, you are castigating the A1 Trust for naming them in an official statement. You do not know whether the A1 Trust asked Bryn Engineering for permission to do this, so why attack them? The heads should roll theme has appeared in quite a few of your posts, so we can draw our own conclusions on your attitude to the A1 Trust.

Sorry, but it might be me, and am happy to be corrected. But looking at the statement posted by A1 Steam trust, there was no mention of who did the re-bore. The contractor's name only came into the public domain, when pictures were released on the A1 Trust website indicating who had done the job. The caption has since been re-named, removing mention of said contractor.

Like I said more than happy to be corrected if I have interpreted it wrong, but make of it what you will.

I think this sums it up.

From the A1ST perspective, repairs take time, cost money, and lose revenue.
If the work is acceptable to one operator and not another, and is signed off as safe, by someone equally or better qualified... then go with the accepted operator and get the reveue, why throw away more time and money on doing it twice ?
From WCRC's perespectiive, they did say the door is open later, so maybe after the next rebore ?..

its not as if it restricts when / where Tornado can go, it just cancels a few trips in the short term.
Its just a pity politics gets in the way and causes lots of frustration.

Thanks for that info. It would appear that the A1 Trust have done a whoopsy. In view of this, apologies are in order to fergusmacg.

Well Shap is a different matter once over the top its down hill all the way to Carlisle .the east coast is relatively flat and the average speeds are a lot higher so it gives you less time to run the fire down.

Therefore, except for starting, the cut-offs are less so less steam is required. This should result in less coal being used, consequently the fire is not as harsh on the firebox as the West Coast line hill climbing. When pulling into Doncaster, York or Newcastle it is fair to expect a well managed fire to be in the firebox, not a roaring one. One question, what are the ruling gradients from the X to the top of Stoke bank? Hardly flat methinks. After Stoke bank the line is pretty well flat all the way to Newcastle, with only a few little humps.

I don't see why. Regardless of whether their name was in the public domain or not, nothing has happened or been said about Bryn Engineering previously that indicates anything less than satisfactory engineering - otherwise we'd have heard about it. To insinuate that there have been any discrepancies - as fergus previously intimated - is wrong when there's no evidence to suggest such discrepancies.

    Not to mention:

At which point have I put words in your mouth?

In any event, it's irrelevant. The trust has removed the name - although it's as good as confirmed - and to be fair, I did think the caption on the photograph was a bit much, and to some extent, unprofessional.

However what this whole sorry saga seems to boil down to is a disagreement somewhere which ended with both sides losing out.

It was the remark ‘as fergus previously intimated’ when all I’ve said is that a non approved contractor had been used and there had to be a reason for that status, that’s what got my back up as not once had I stated the work was not up to scratch, I simply don’t have the facts one way or the other.

I’m glad you now at last feel the remarks made by the trust are unprofessional - that’s what I’ve been saying all along, now what are you going to do about it within the trust ?

But that - does it not - intimate something untoward with the engineering company in question? Which may or may not be unfair.

    Fair enough.

As I'm only a covenator, I'm not sure what more I can do than simply drop them a line and ask them to peruse this thread and its contents. The comment was up for a short period of time - could we in that sense call it a "retraction"...!

However whilst I'm disappointed with the nature of that specific comment on the photograph (for I do not agree with your assertion that the statements put out by the trust are in any way unprofessional) it pales in significance to many of the unsubstantiated remarks aimed at all three companies in question, in this very thread.

Lord knows why there's such politics in railway preservation, when all any of us want is to see steam at work.

May I ask an uninformed question? Do the repairs in Germany mean that the 7 year mainline ticket has been reset to zero?

    Many thanks,

    Toby

Because every time a post or link from the website is placed in the thread, a almightly argument starts, normally about something trivial.......
