What were the shades of blue? I have seen it written that the darker blue matched the A4s but find it’s normally it’s own paint shade in the paint ranges.

It is being reported that 60163 Tornado has sustained damage on her 90mph run from Kings Cross to York and is currently awaiting assistance near Sandy. The tour will be dragged to Peterborough where 60163 will be removed and head to the NVR for further inspection. No timings are available at the moment, but keep a look out on our Peterborough and NVR Cams later on.......

I realise that not much detail is known, but given what we do know (sheared-off drop link, combination lever and union link lying mangled in the 4ft) and what has been reported (cylinder/piston valve damage), it's a fair bet that it won't be a cheap fix, and may make a significant dent in the existing overhaul fund, making it harder to finance the boiler work as and when it becomes necessary.

Quite aside from all that, I was wondering more about whether the P2 would have to be temporarily evicted or at least neglected while Tonka is the focus of their attention...

There really is no point in speculating, already you have repeated conjecture rather than facts, the A1 Trust have said nothing about cylinder damage and there are plenty of places to do repairs other than Darlington, it's winter maintenance was carried out in Loughborough. Let's just wait for the official feedback from the Trust.

60163's had a fair old bit of work done to it in the past whilst 2007's been under construction, I don't see why that should change.

Ah yes, but where would we be without such speculation? I suspect we would have the resurrect 'Pin the Tail on the Donkey'.

getting back to practical matters, has the A1 trust got any railtours lined up whilst 60163 is under repair, and do they have a substitute loco available to them, isn't 1264 now owned, or under the trust's control?

I suppose it makes a change from what shade of green the inside motion will be.

I've just been thinking the same thing.

This one was one I am/was very much looking forward too...

    http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t18/t0428a.htm

...being the first steam on the Derby-Stoke line, and through my local station, since I moved this way five years or so ago.

Guessing the most likely outcome is a cancellation or postponement, but will try to refrain from further speculation and await news. There has been rather too much of that this weekend :)

When David Buck first bought 61306 he briefly had the A1 trust look after it, is that what you thinking of Martin?

Much of the above would be better moved to the A1 thread I suggest?

Totally agree Sheff, I notice the speculation has also appeared on the P2 thread too.

Whilst no doubt we all have a few questions or theories, please consider the extra un-needed pressure that this can bring both to the Tornado team who have more than enough to focus on right now, and also on any investigation that may arise.

For myself, I have faith in the process of a professional outfit getting to the bottom of any problem to do with the machine that they built from the ground up. I am more than happy to wait and see what the next few days or weeks brings without indulging in speculation.

The facts should emerge soon enough through official channels. :)

I'm wondering whether that means only that the ORR will be watching or participating in the Trust's investigation or whether it means an independent investigation.

An ideal opportunity to test whether its procedures and rules regarding the construction, operation and maintenance of mainline steam are working correctly ? which should be possible with the minimum of fuss against an organisation that prides itself on doing things by the book.

Since I haven't had a go at speculation yet... Q...Motion components are generally machined from forged Billets (?) are we as good at forging as we used to be ?

Saw Mr Allatt on the news this Morning, came across well as always, looked exhausted.
