I think we are also missing the Duchess and Tyseley's Castles currently (just for variety)

The return of the Duchess is probably only weeks away and then there's Lizzie being dealt with at Carnforth

I hope you mean 46233 John, 'cos I'm booked behind that at the beginning of December :)

Nope. I miss Tornado. It has produced many good runs for me and that's why the A1ST gets my money. It has only failed completely on me twice which is a pretty reasonable record for a main line steam loco over 9 years given the mileage I've travelled behind it. Looking forward to the October trip over the S&C, assuming everything goes well in the meantime. On the whole, when it's up front you get something half decent as a day out with a touch of something special on the loco performance side. Few other locos offer that consistently.

I do indeed. I believe there's a chance it could be at the SVR Gala

For me it's very special and the only serious rival for Clan Line. Big programme next year but no 90 mph I believe.

On the subject of 90 mph, the last statement from the Trust that I have seen said it would not be this year but was silent about next year. What have you heard about next year, how authoritative is it, and is there any further explanation?

I can't help with your question but I assume that the imminent report will talk, inter alia, about speed as well as the component failure and that may give clues as to what the ORR view might be of future high speed running, whether it is from Tornado or any other loco. If a higher speed is possible with the A1 to help with pathing - that is the reason, remember - then the same could apply for other locomotives.

That said, whether other loco owning groups think that is a good idea is another matter.

It will be lovely to see Tornado under steam again at her 10th year anniversary no matter what the speed will be.:) And, worth to repeat the locomotive now being fully owned by the A1 Trust after the purchase of the tender three years before the lease end! Bravo!

Just my observation: but ruling anything out before the report is fully published does the whole thing a disservice.

I’ve listened to people across the spectrum of the industry and further factors such as possibly contaminated lubricants have come to light.

The report will no doubt inform us all. We’ve not had regular 90mph running bar Bitterns runs in preservation before. We were bound to have some teething troubles though no doubt we were all not expecting this.

I’m confident this won’t be the last time, and I’m not convinced Tornado will be the only 90mph loco either. The more that happens, the more we learn.

Have some sympathy for me then - long time supporter - 1 main line run - 1 failure - 100% record :)

This is on the A1 website now under the Aug 10 update but I do not think it was there originally -
We have been asked if Tornado will be in steam over the Bank Holiday weekend and advise that the loco will not be operating. We are approaching the final stage of reassembly and will advise when test running is to begin, which we anticipate will be the first week of September following various independent inspections

I wonder if that will happen when PoW takes to the rails because realistically, PoW can't be anything other than Apple Green!

I’m hoping for the A1 Trust eggshell grey to get another outing on 2007.
