Pboro has a magnificent cathedral, within easy walking of the station (both stations!).
It's a hidden gem, I've lived in Cambs for nearly 10 years, and passed through Pbor often before, and didn't even know it was there.
I highly recommend it. It's also free to visit!

I've heard people go "wow..." when they see it coming into Peterborough from the south on the train, especially at night.

Interesting piece on FB last week, thanking the A1 trusts "carriage stewards", for their work.
Looks like the move towards the trust's own rolling stock, is using the stay on the Wensleydale, as a proving and training exercise.

Forward thinking, at its finest, good luck to them.

The A1 Trust has been providing volunteer stewards since they started running their own tours some while ago. Three years maybe?

Looks like on the 5 October run, Tornado is now doing York to Carlisle via the Tyne Valley, over the S and C and back to 'outside Sheffield'--Brightside I presume. That's a big upgrade.

The email sent to passengers about the change and the renaming of the tour says to just outside Chesterfield on the return though.
Between Sheffield and Chesterfield could be classed as outside either one really.;)

On the 20th July run on the North Briton is Tornado steam hauled from Doncaster and it's going via Adwick towards Leeds?

A1SLT are now managing bookings for their tours in-house via their website or phone line, and no longer use UKRT as their booking agent.

So if its a tour organised by the A1 S.L.T. they are now the booking agents themselves and so comformation final timings tickets now on come from Darlington?

That's correct. Tickets etc for Tornado tours will now come from Darlington even if your booking was originally through UK Railtours.

Surprised more hasn't been mentioned about Tornado group ordering a spare boiler, along with the one ordered for the P2.

Edit: I see some is mentioned on the P2 thread, but expected more here...

About the time when the P2 was going from chosen as the next locomotive to fund raising for they were envisioning a spare boiler for both it and Tornado.
The amount of common parts between the A1 and the P2 must have determined the decision on just what to build next and the boiler could logically have been
the clincher - a really large factor in containing both the cost and the risk.

In principle I'm wholly glad. You can be much surer of finishing a repair at the planned time if you have a boiler ready ready to go straight in.
Already incurred the boiler costs will be known and it helps to make the most of scarce workshop space.
The Bluebell with two spare boilers - one of which will fit more than one class of really useful locomotives - have taken advantage of this and that
the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland are building another boiler to use on their either their NCC 2-6-4 tank engine or a new build 2-6-0 tender engine is comparable.
I'm actually quite surprised nobody has managed to rustle up a spare boiler either by repairing a surviving one or by making one quite new which could go on
some of the numerous and widely used classes: eg Black 5s, BR Standard 4s, or a Swindon Standard 4 boiler which - leaving City of Truro out of it -
would fit all the big GWR tank engines whether six or eight coupled and the 43XX 2-6-0s.

In practice I'm a bit surprised after the consequences of the firebox problems that Tornado had, at ordering two identical boilers at the same time.
Given how quite stuck you are while any big work is being done on a boiler I can see a case for ordering two as an insurance policy.
50,000 pounds were paid towards repairing the original Tornado boiler and over and above that there were no fees received from hauling trains
for what was not a minimal period. I doubt that the cost then can be altogether forgotton now and having two boilers promptly may well outweigh
the obvious common sense of getting one new boiler and then ordering the other when that is proven satisfactory.

Can't complain though about them shilly-shallying, hanging about and never getting the spare.
They have got on with things and the example they achieved with Tornado has simply shown and proved that building a full size express
steam locomotive from scratch and running it on the modern main line with as much as it can haul at 75 mph is unarguably doable.
Not without set backs, not instantly, a really large and remarkable achievement. Well outweighing any inelegancies in the doing.
