There's a point of view that engaging in threads like this is akin to mud wrestling with a pig. Such engagement may only lead to stress and abuse for your own people without actually providing any benefit to the organisation. Sound and fury, signifying, as the Bard said, nothing.

And it will be remaining an under used A3, until the NRM, find a new operator, As regards an LNER pacific tour, involving all 4 classes, It would in essence be a one off, and that in itself would generate interest as it wouldn't be cheap, but I think it would certainly do well bookings wise, I suppose, that taking my original idea for this, the ideal thing would be instead of using a Deltic, for the final Carlisle - Kings cross leg, use the A3 for that, giving a leg for each class.

There is. But I was thinking more of what is said through normal channels, not on here.

Does the thought of LNER locos on the WCML cause you some discomfort? Please remember that locos from all the Big Four and BR Standards are nowadays to be found all over the network.
@martin1656 had suggested "Carlisle to Kings cross, non steam leg, Using Deltic", which would be fair enough. I had in mind to include one more LNER Pacific and, having got to Carlisle, to take the obvious route south. But S&C then something around Leeds and ECML would be OK too. I don't know how practicable any such trip would be, but speculation seems harmless.

Just seemed a little at odds with the East Coast star cast , just a chuckle. ECML paths are, as you elude to, hard to come by ( and harder to hold)

Agree but it was done with the Tornado Top Gear run, however a 12/13 hour stagger would do nobody any favours, it is currently a 5 1/2 hour run from Durham to Edinburgh, for just over 120 miles????

I went on that trip because I really wanted a main line run behind 60009 before John Cameron retired it, but I was a little disappointed that it wasn't on what I felt were "home metals", to wit the ECML.

That particular prayer was answered some time later when 60009 stepped in to cover a stopped 60163 on what was meant to be a mixed Deltic/A1 tour to Durham. Absolute dream of a run on the ECML as a result and I couldn't have been happier. JC was on the footplate too for added bonus points :)

I have had many fine runs along the ECML over the years. I think my favourite is the 2008 Steam Dreams Coronation because, despite the unfortunate failure of 60009 on the down leg, it had a fast enough schedule to provide a pause at York to see the A4 line up. The Top Gear run was also fast and fun. None, of course, featured diesel assistance, apart from a rescue mission. I doubt that it is possible these days to timetable anything remotely similar.

Did anybody notice that in July Network Rail issued a tender for the fitting of ETCS to up to 24 (and possibly 40) heritage locomotives?

£40M for 24 locos... anyone thinking of taking a 'first of type' loco main line in the future had better have deep pockets.

It's a typo - those are the TOPS codes for the engines being fitted...

Good to see some progress with Tornado.

Is there any word out there on when Tornado will move to TYS, or the likely arrival date for one or more of the new boilers at Darlington - not much of autumn left now.
