I have to agree with you there John, very slick indeed.

I remember being parted from my money by Mark on the running trials at the GCR last September without realising it had gone.

Tongue in cheek , Mark would do very well in a less honest profession than the one he follows now.

    Good luck to the man.

I work in the advertising industry and I can tell you that many agencies would give their right arm to have a man with Mark's proven PR abilities on their staff. What he (and the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust of course) has accomplished for 60163 should provide many heritage project leaders with plenty of clues on how to raise the profile of their cause. And it needn't always cost pots of money either.

    John.

It has been anounced today that the public will be aloud onto Darlington's platforms on Saturday to see '163 after NXEC had prevously said they would not be because of ice on the platforms.

Well done to NXEC for changing their decision after the local newspaper appealed for it to be opened to the public, its not often a company changes its mind from public pressure.

Here is the article they wrote in Wednesdays paper:

Yes well done to them, & all that , but why close platforms anyway? What do they think passengers did for the last 150 or so years?!
they prob. think someone will sue them or something, maybe right nowadays. More lawyers laughing all the way to the bank.

You see, I feel such an idiot. I've been taking pics of the Torbay Express and a few other excursions every summer since waaaaaaaay back to 2005 and I didn't know that for a short time in 1948 steam locos went around without one of a small variety of lion logos on it...and admitted it on here too...Call myself a "railway enthusiast"!!?? (which I don't) I'M A **.***** AMATEUR, FRANK! #-o

I live one and a half miles from the ECML but 230 from the S&C. That's why I'll be out for 60163, if I can get away from work that is. Enjoy your day in the Northern fells.

How about the Lickey? I know Dainton has a very short stretch at 1 in 36 but in the main it's slightly easier than the Lickey.
