    Further to the release “Transnet invites Expressions of Interest from Steam in Action members to acquire Steam locomotives and Rolling Stock” you will have received various schedules which were contained in the attachments. We have been asked to point out these schedules contain information, besides the A, B and C lists, that are in fact work in progress and are not finalised.

    These were provided to SIA in error and only the A, B and C lists are relevant at this point, the others should be ignored. Attached for your information, in a different format, are the A, B and C lists which are relevant to the current exercise. Please refer to this list which also provides more clarity on the A, B and C locomotives.

    The coach list originally attached to the first release is correct.

    The spares list will be formalised at some time in the near future and is still a work progress and further information will be made available in the near future.

    How things have changed since I paid my first visit back in 2002. Whilst there may have been clouds on the horizon, TF had an excellent fleet of working locos and the rolling stock to go with them. Now we're reduced to almost nothing in working order and the Union Limited is just a distant memory.

    Yes, its very sad. My mate has a place in Cape Town and goes there on a regular basis. His photos of locos at places like Vorbaai and Worcester make depressing viewing. He told me this week that a lot of the vintage carriage stock used until quite recently on specials is vandalised and stripped. I've put a link to his Flickr site below. I gather other dumps of locos nearer the larger cities are in even worse condition.
