Over US $30 billion for four express rail routes

Vietnam Railways will invest more than US $30 billion
in four high-speed rail routes. The projects are
expected to start in 2010 and complete in 2015.

These are Hanoi-Vinh, Nha Trang-Ho Chi Minh City
(HCMC), HCMC-Vung Tau and Hanoi-Hai Phong.

As designed, the Hanoi-Vinh will be 280 kilometres
long and cost US $10.36 billion, the Nha Trang-HCMC
400 kilometres at a cost of US $14.8 billion. US $3.7
billion is to be invested in HCMC-Vung Tau, a route of
100 kilometres, and US $2 billion for the Hanoi-Hai
Phong which is 100 kilometres long.

In 2016 and later, Vietnam Railways will invest in
other routes of Vinh-Nha Trang, HCMC-Can Tho and
    Hanoi-Lang Son.

The modern high-speed rail routes will have the width
of 1,435millimetres instead of 1,000 at present. The
future train speed could reach 160-300 kilometres an
    hour.
