I think that is called "serendipity" - or maybe just "what a spawny git"!

Not sure if it is a factual picture. Rather a lot of comments on twitter that it has been photoshopped

I did wonder a bit - but it's one of those images that you want to be true!

Unless someone on the train can confirm they saw/heard the Vulcan making a bigger noise over the lump on the front of the train................. OR those in the know can confirm it 'could' have happened............. the I suspect somebodie's been playing in photo wotsit, as its so heavily pixilated, its hard to tell!........................ the sceptic in me says it didn't happen...................

Galatea round the coast last Wednesday? XH558 was tucked up in the hangar at Doncaster sadly.

Definitely serendipitous to obtain a photo of something that didn't even happen then!

I think its called 'cashing in'...............................

Don't you think if either party had the chance of obtaining a shot like that, it would've been shouted from the rooftops?.....................

Here's a quote from the newsletter regarding the tours
"However, here are the initial planning routes to help for now, but please do note these are likely to change slightly. We will update you in the week ahead of the flights with the latest route, locations of interest from where you might view and the overhead times from take-off."

Just wondering if the Northern leg can be paced by train?
Seems to follow the ECML for quite a while.

With the names of prominent landmarks painted on the roofs...

It's a little-known fact that during the bombing raid on Port Stanley, the Merchant Navy stationed ships in pre-arranged positions every fifty miles from Ascencion to the Falklands with distinctive markings painted on the fore decks to help the Vulcan navigate. Fact!

Funny how Martin Withers never mentioned this in his book and just how would these ships and their distinctive markings be seen from high altitude and in the dark?

Whooosssshh! And that's the sound of needing to use a smiley going over yours. There's so much twaddle posted on NatPres these days it's difficult to tell who's joking and who isn't, especially those who seem to be emoticon challenged.
I'm surprised you didn't manage to involve the Bluebell and the LBSCR in this thread. :p

I'll remember in the future, though such things are the very devil of a job to insert ona mobile phone unless you remember the :text codes:  Given that it followed immediately after a little exchange about the Vulcan still using using a century-old navigation technique, and that positioning 80-odd specially painted ships at short notice over 4000 miles of ocean was clearly preposterous, I thought most people would notice the tongue / cheek interface scenario. Clearly I was wrong... :(

As a matter of Factual certainty.
I live near the York Northern Ring Rd within a couple of hundred yards of one of many roundabouts.
It is a regular occurance for aircraft of all types to navigate by following the road but of even more note is the amount of times Helicopters stop and read the roadsigns or rather the crew does. At night the use of the spotlight has also been noted.

When flying something small and low speed you have the chance to navigate by visual references of which roads and rivers are key reference points. The faster you go the quicker they pass by. On the first trip of the SR-71 to Franborough it was rumoured that they overflew the UK and were over Holland before they turned round.

Blimey, if I'd paid serious money for a helicopter, I'd expect it to have a satnav fitted......
