This is a dissapointing outcome to what was originally advertised.I am glad I did one two years back with what I thought was a good combination of a Jub and a K4 and the more interesting route on the return from Glasgow.
Keep in going Frank.Hopefully someone somewhere will take notice and things will improve for the better.

Not too disappointing so far, just had a cracking run up Shap, 65 mph at the bottom, 39mph over the top, 44932 sounding brilliant, I love that 2 cylinder beat!

Why? People are entitled to voice their opinions. Providing it's not slanderous or a blatant breaking of the published rules, why should RTC be exempt from consumer criticism on this discussion board? Perhaps if RTC 'staff' were more visible on this board with explanations when things go wrong, then the mods wouldn't have to listen to your complaints and/or DIRECTIVES about their performance.

44932 has been failed apparently. Don't know what that means for tomorrow, presumably a fair bit of tender first running. Thesummer schedule certainly seems to be taking its toll on the mainline fleet.

45407 & 44871 were scheduled to be in Crianlarich overnight in any case. One Black 5 + 9 bogies from Garelochhead to Glen Douglas tender first on a wet rail sounds like a tall order & a recipe for a repeat of last year. I suppose options could be to take both Black 5s to Glasgow & work the train from Glasgow through to Oban, back to Crianlarich & then tender first to Fort William subject to coal/water/crew constraints. A less desirable option would be to keep the 47 that assists the departure from Queen Street on the back & bank the train to Glen Douglas & then leave it at Crianlarich as insurance. Big decisions.

Sad news for all concerned, but reports elsewhere suggest 45407 is on its way to Glasgow to take charge in the morning. Don' know how that affects the Oban run.

here's my footage of today's trip

Load looks like 7, and the weather is going to be interesting by the look of things - folks overestimated the capacity of Black 5s last year and no one needs a repeat prescription. I don't know what the state of play is with regard to the K4 but if it is fit to run it should have been arranged for it to be moved into position as soon as 46115 went down because hoping to get repairs carried out in time is not good enough.

Top and tail to Oban may be the sensible option if allowed by NR. It has been done before out of Oban on the infamous Highlander trip.

I agree. Either top and tail, or tender to tender, would seem most likely. Both have been done before on the WHL. Whatever is decided, I hope the operation goes smoothly!

We're running to Oban with the two Black 5's coupled tender to tender. I guess 45407 will take us back to Glasgow tomorrow. Perhaps they'll send the 8F up to fetch us back to Carnforth, hope so!

According to UK Steam 45407 is on the Jacobite tomorrow, so if this is correct, it will be 44871.If they cannot fix 44932 in time, I would think they would send 45231, since the 8F is restricted to 50mph.
