Found this while walking out near my house the other day, its a poor photo but it says Railways on it, the first half of the lettering was hidden by the door. (probably British railways)

Can't see it too clearly but is it a small container of the early style, like the examples recently restored at the Mid-Hants?

Out of interest, does anyone know how many early 'conflat' type containers survive? Apart from the two at the Mid-Hants, I'm not aware of any others at preservation centres, or even derelict in farmers fields.

I seem to recall from my last visit that there are a few of the wooden containers used for storage at the Plym Valley Railway, not sure what type they are though.

There are a few of the early type containers around - the HRA wagons database reveals (after a very superficial scan) an "A" type container at the IoWSR and a "D" type at the GWR. I'm sure the NYMR has an "A" or "B" type as well, and I'm fairly sure that I have seen others at the SVR. I'm willing to bet there are more, though!

    Try http://www.conflat.co.uk/gcr_box.html

This has list of BR containers waiting to be restored, or scrapped! The Bluebell Railway have a good Half container and an SR baggage box. The MHR have a few other containers beside the two restored ones.

The chap who did the sign writing is Chris Le Corney the Chairman of our group.

I think he cut out every individual number and letter on card , then sprayed over it and touched the surrounding area,s afterwards.

    Regards
    CW.

I was going to ask, since they are containers, how they were trans-loaded (If thats a word) - then I found this -

I doubt whether most would have been loaded/unloaded that way - far more likely that the simple mandraulic goods yard crane (or even cruder methods) would have been the method of choice in most instances. Still an intersting picture though.

This looks an excellent job, but hasn't he left off the "NOT TO BE LOADED WITH CONTAINERS" bit !!!
