    Hello
After reading the artical in heritage railway about the MNR plan to get the 2 carriage from the NYMR what about the last surviving one at the dean forest railway could it even be looked at to see of it is recoverable and can it be confirmed that the other 2 from the dean forest have been scrapped as there has been 2 cases where stock was presumed scrap but wasnt?
    thanks
    Patrick

I can remember the DFR ones being in service - its doesn't seem that long ago, but probably is!

Indeed the 2 XP64s on the Moors were runners back in the '80s. When they were purchased by the Diesel Traction Group, who moved on many years ago in the mid-late '90s and for want of a better term "abandoned" the coaches as they are seriously contaminated with Blue Asbesto. As to their ownership now I'm not rightly sure other than by default the NYMR.

They are on a rolling stock disposal list from the NYMR on which all items are to go by the end of 2013. They are given as TSO W4728, and SK W25508, both 1964 (doh!) and both requiring asbestos removal plans.

Interesting. What else is on the disposal list? Some of the many brake vans, I expect, and perhaps the boiler van?

    This is the complete list:

The NYMR is currently undertaking a review of its rolling stock fleet and, in accordance, with its Disposal Policy, offers the following vehicles for disposal to other HRA members at scrap value or by alternative agreement. In all cases, disposal from the NYMR is required before the end of 2013.
Unless indicated otherwise, all vehicles can be inspected at Grosmont or Pickering and are offered ‘as seen’. Most are in poor condition and in need of overhaul/restoration. The NYMR Trust is the owner of most vehicles but this list includes some privately owned vehicles. In these cases, the NYMR will place interested parties in touch with the owner to make future arrangements.
Vehicles in which no interest is expressed within two months of the appearance of this notice will be offered for scrap.

Forgive the idiot question, but what state is the S160 in? And what would be the scrap value of her?

Bear in mind [and this is only a tale I'd heard] some joker thought that the West Highland White Terrier emblem that was applied to some of the class 37s based on the West Highland line that had been given former K2 names [taken from some of the Lochs along the line] was the shape of the said Lochs DOH!!!! and some.........

The Dean Forest Railway had three -

FK 13407 was scrapped by January 2013
SK 25509 scrapped by end of 2007
TSO 4729 is awaiting a grant to restore it (according to a DFR email in April 2020)

According to Carriage survey database, all three were preserved in 1981 at the DFR, and noted for sale in 1999, so presumably out of service since around then.

I think the last time the XP64s ran was about 2000 when the railway acquired two NSE liveried Mk1 TSO's.

The NSE TSOs - 4990 and 5000 - arrived a good deal earlier than that, say around 1992. By then one of the XP64s had been stored u/s for some time, while the other, in decidedly ratty condition, was as I recall being used for strengthening purposes only.

Good news for the NYMR, though, is that the current fleet of operational LNER stock (which is more in keeping with what the NYMR is about) is about to be increased to be increased by three coaches in the coming months - BTO 43567 is due to return from Barrow Hill where it has been undergoing underframe repairs for damage sustained in the runaway incident at Grosmont, whilst BTK 3889 is arriving from a private site near Bridlington, where restoration has been undertaken to a very high standard. Finally, as mentioned elsewhere, Thompson TK 1623 is approaching completion as well.

It is hoped that Autumn 2013 will see work commence on the LNERC's next two projects, ECJS Clerestory diner 189 and Thompson CK 18477.

Yes, both 4990 and 5000 are on the NYMR. Horrible things, refurbed with fluorescent lights and formica interiors. Soul-less.

    There's a horrible NSE-refurbished SK as well, as I recall. 16156, isn't it?

Off the top of my head, I think I count sufficient LNER and constituent company coaches either on the NYMR or intended for the NYMR to create two seven coach teak sets for ordinary service, a six coach diner set, and a three coach non-gangwayed set. It's a remarkable collection.

Presumably the deadline has now passed, and the fates of those vehicles which have not found buyers is sealed. I noticed last week that the GUV and BG had been moved up to Pickering yard, presumably for parts recovery. Does anybody know what has and has not been sold?
