Black Five Gala

Are there any plans for a Black Five gathering sometime in the future? It would be ideal if East Lancs staged it because it is well in their region and they will have 45407, 44871, 45231 & 45337 from their pool. If they could arrange the visits of 45212, 44806, 45379 (when completed), 45428 (when completed) and 44932 (when completed) it will truly be a event to remember. I think triple-headed Black Fives should be on the cards!

I remember seeing footage of that at Burrs. It was with 45407 (5407), 45337 (M5337) and 44767. I could not believe the sound from them at Burrs, it really was out of this world.

 

It would be even more extreme if the ELR took advantage of it's mainline connection for this kind of a Gala..

Imagine a few inbound Black 5s on railtours, Liverpool / Leeds - Bury with the ELR one of the ELR mainline trio(45407/ 45231 / 44871), Lancaster- Bury with 44932, as well as a couple of return trips to say Manchester.. round Oldham then return the tours at night both days

guarenteed patronage from wider a field, extra revenue beyond a rover ticket and makes the event even more stunning... lets face it Bolton St is a mainline station..and their black5s are mainline ones..

 

That is a brilliant idea. Should be plenty of noise over the Ski Jump. I never knew that 44932 would be mainline certified for when she steams again. Awesome, five Black Fives on the mainline in the future. =D> By the way, how are the overhauls of 44767 & 45491 going on? The line up of Black Fives just gets better and better.

 

As mentioned elsewhere, 45305 is also expected back in traffic later this year, and has a mainline ticket too.

Another variation might be to gather as many mainline 5MTs as possible at York to pose with 5000. How about two tours converging on York from ELR/Manchester (44871+45407) and Tysley(45305+45231?), then each going round the Harrogate Circle, perhaps in opposite directions? Maybe swap the locos around for the loop or the return trips?

 

I am really liking all of the ideas. Keep them coming. \/

 

There is every likelihood that the nymr will turn out 45428, 45212, 44767 and probs 45407 on a 'normal' day at some point next year!

I might have to pop over as well. \/ When 44871 returns, will Ian Riley put her on a loan agreement to the NYMR, just like 45407 & 76079?

 

Depends if the NYMR need 3 engines from Ian, they might find themselves in a better position for loco's next year and not need the services of any of Ians engines, we will have to wait and see.

A black 5 gala would be great It's a real shame the class 5 event didn't work out for the ELR this year really, but we shall see what happens

As Alex has already commented on, we shall have to see how the NYMR find themselves next year for engines with the prospect of: 75029, 825, Eric and 30926 all being passed out for Whitby's will they really require any more mainline engines? Also it was also commented on, on the NYMR forum by Mr Riley that the NYMR wouldn't pay for the transport costs for 45407 this year. But we shall just have to wait and see.

 

Well, I guess there is no need for 44871 to run there on a regular basis. But it would be nice to see her visiting in the future. =P~

Better than a gala full of ECML stuff, which happens far too often these days as well! Let's face it, there's far more variety in industrial locos anyway \/
