    Channel,

    Wow thanks for pic.

In 1983 I was in the Sea Cadets and Andalucia Star was in Portsmouth completely covered in rust following a hard trip to the Falklands. From that moment on I was hooked on Blue Star! On leaving Uni I was offered a job with Blue Star but instead went to another company where I could play trains, ships and lorries - I have always wondered what might have been...

See she is due to leave on Sunday night- looks like I will be at Portishead!

    PS I want your desk.....

When I first went to sea in 1959 Blue Star had a large fleet of well maintained handsome ships but none had radar, reputedly because of an earlier radar assisted incident.I served my apprenticeship with a competing company whose ships were more traditional in appearance, but all had radar. The best looking ships were Port Line.Anyone interested in ships on the Australia/New Zealand trade in that era should view the videos and dvds issued by Snowbow Productions. A fine looking ship in its original form - its a pity that there is little chance of one of these classic cargo vessels being preserved anywhere appropriate. Maritime Nation anyone?

    Cheers

It was a Blue Star v/l that repatriated 4472 from the USA,either Colombia or California Star,I,m not sure which, both were container ships.

We should remember the City of Hamburg has the Cap San Diego which will probably be the last of her days to survive. Personally I dream of seeing the Geestbay preserved in her 'home port' of Barry . . . sadly all it'll ever be is a dream though.

Given the Star's pilot order of 2000 I would expect her to be passing 'the point' around 2100.

Another classis in Avonmouth today too - Snow Drift. Outbound about now bound for Sheerness.

Gothenburg used to have one of the original motor ships preserved,a Jonhson Line v/l I think,Jutlandia I think, used to be berthed in the Freeport. No funnel but 4 masts and the exhausts ran up the 3rd mast. But I'm talking about 1962 s could be long gone. Colin.
