Recently now the owner of a lovly OO gauge ex. London Brighton & South Coast pull - push set got me wondering about preseved ones.

Is the Bluebell's 48 foot long First still out of traffic?

Am I the only one who slightly heisnt about the intended restoration of the former 48 foot third at the Isle of Wight? Don't get me wrong what I think they doing is brilliant way of accomidating a wheel chair compartment for the vintage train. But as its the only surivor of the most common ex. Brighton bogie coach I know off, couldn't it be restored as orignal? If another 48 foot long third turned up be would nice. Then I need to win the lottery!!! (This isn't attack, if thats what the Isle of Wight want to do then I prefer to that then it not being restored at all...)

Now for the big question! Any chance of a recreation of a Brighton Pull - Push set!!!! One type was a rebuilding using a 6-wheeled third, so maybe if once I won the lottery....

What we think or am I talking load of rubbish....

Knowing the lads at Havenstreet, I would think that everything they modify is capable of being put back at a later date. They modified a 4-wheeler some years back, and its very difficult to spot it, you have to know what you are looking for.

The Bluebells Brighton 1st is still out of traffic having new doors fitted, but isn't far off finishing.

The restoration of what is now 2403 is progressing at quite a pace, it should be ready for traffic during 2012. The body was offered to the Isle of Wight as their were no other takers, if it hadn't of been adopted by Kim Chalkley I am not sure what its future would have been. After Kims passing a few years ago the main gang has continued with its restoration.

Two coaches of the same type were delivered to the island 2410 and 2411, both of these coaches were equiped with more modern angle trussed underframe before delivery. 2403 is now on a very similar 50ft underframe, the extra 2ft gave the opertunity to provide an extra hidden door on each side of one compartment.

A very similar conversion was carried out on LCDR 4wheel coach 2515, although without the need to extend the body. It is very difficult to spot the extra door, it looks as if it is an ordinary bodyside section. 2403 is exactly the same, the extra door will be very difficult to detect.

We are altering the coach, but in a very sympathetic manner. We are also carrying on the island railway tradition of adapting to suit the traffic requirements. Many of the islands coaches were altered to suit the needs of the day.

Yes - the set is the three Maunsell's + SECR 100 seater + LBSCR bogie first + SECR Birdcage brake.

The other set is the Mets + the three 4 wheelers

Hope you liked the 6-coach olive-green rake running on the Bluebell over the Southern at War weekend, Matt.

With the Maunsell coaches out of service for routine maintenance this week, the vintage set this weekend has been formed of the Birdcage No.3363, the LBSCR Bogie First No.7598 (which re-entered service on 12 May), SECR Hundred seater No.1098, and LSWR Brake Third No.1520. They are expected to be running next weekend as well.

With regard to the LBSCR bogie Third (No.2403) on the IoW, it was offered to the IoW after we (Bluebell) decided we couldn't take it on in addition to No.7598. As the only non-island coach on the IoW it's an appropriate one for IoW to adapt for wheelchair use, and a fitting memorial to Kim Chalkley, who worked on both our railways.
