    the SECR D class, i remember seeing her at york quite a long time ago, , does anyone know what kind of state she is in and is it a posible candidate for a possible future return to steam?

    I think I've read somewhere, and it has stuck in my mind (although this may have been about the T3), that 31737's boiler and firebox are pretty ropey, and I doubt the NRM would want to fund another near new-build boiler/firebox after their experience with 60103. Not for a long while, anyway, but I'm up for a nice surprise in the future... ;)

    I was trying to find stuff on the state of the D class bolier but couldn't find anything obvious.

    In the T3 thread, I had this quote from C Hamilton Ellis - the boiler of that engine must be pretty time worn, though presumably it was OK in 1948, at least for light duties!
