Hope this doesn't break the rules… I'm helping my Mum sell a lot of my Dad's collection of railwayana, mostly on eBay. Mostly cast iron signs, builders plates and the like, but there's a few bits we're struggling to identify, or describe adequately.

One item we're trying to identify is a but of wood with the GWR crest on it - wondering if it's just decoration from somewhere, or if it's been forcibly removed from a coach maybe?

Mods - if this isn't allowed, please let me know - I've got a few other questions that I'm hoping the NatPres community can help with, but don't want to antagonise anyone.

    Any suggestions gratefully received.

    Cheers,

    Please -

Get your collection appraised so that you can get the right price for it.

EBay is alright for some things in the general market - but specialist items such as in the worksplate world will do far better in the dedicated railwayana auctions. I'mn ot going to recommend any specific auctioneer - have a look at Prorail and you will find listings of live auctions, although there are also Talisman and Railwayana.net that he doesn't list.

That looks like a coach transfer and it is quite normal practice for them to have been applied to a backing board and sold separately - think around the fifty to seventy quid mark for that.
