With 45407 and 62005 returning in the next couple of weeks from another successful season on West Highland , has anyone got wind of the lineup for next year ? A brace of Black Fives ? Imagine 3442 will be busy in the Far North if all goes to plan .

I don't know about 62005 on the Jacobites but did wonder whether it would be a suitable replacement for 76079 on the Cambrian, if that train runs in 2010.

I think you may see 44932 on the 2010 Jacobite.

    Cheers

Thing is if West Coast had their own 5 doing the Jacobite they'd have to crew it and maintain it while the loco's up there. When I say crew it I don't mean the Driver and Fireman I mean the Support Crew, 3,4,5, 6 of them? The nature of the railway is such that it causes a fair amount of ware and tear on the engines, look at both 45407 and 62005 needing a new set of tyres this winter for example.

With the present setup West Coast simply hire the engines for the season up there and everything is provided: a working engine with it's own Support Crew who will look after, clean and fix it throughout the season. Unless there is a more serious problem everything is simply taken care of by the support crews so West Coast don't have to anything in that respect. It works so why change it?

I wouldn't rule out 44932 paying a visit up North though, be it as a standby or on a charter etc.

I'd like to think next year will be more of the same? With a Black 5 working week in week out with the K1.
