It helps a bit. I can see that the embankment does narrow considerably west of the platform, but I am still puzzled about the single island being the best solution. It will certainly be recognizable though

I guess the added width is because of the original 'junction' layout? Although I gather that the site originally had two separate single-track running lines upon it which diverged, the actual junction being closer to the original Corwen Station? I don't know the area too well, so merely going off old map data!

As for the water tower and its 'chemical refinery ladder', I tend to agree that it is not as aesthetically pleasing as it could be! Is that because it is a 'new build' and therefore has to comply with modern regulations?

I'd like to make a small donation to assist the Railway but can't see any provision for donations on their web-site. Can somebody point me in the right direction, please ?

A lot of people talk about Broadway and how well the station has been re-created, which is true, however the GWSR is clearly able to get money in in a much bigger way than most railways, and the Llangollen railway hasn't (in recent years) seemed to do that. So to criticise people for doing the best with the small amount of money available is quite harsh. The GWSR also manages to run with very little, if any, paid staff where as Llangollen has for years now had a large amount of paid staff. This also limits the amount of money available to spend on making things inkeeping etc. And the destination of Broadway is a million times more attractive and popular than Corwen. Had the railway opted for a different site I think people may have been more forthcoming with donations.

Forthcoming enough to cover a few million to go the extra 200 yards or so over green lane to the original site I wonder? The benefit of the new location for corwen station is its closer to the town centre, and right on top of a very large car park.

I think it looks a nice station . I don’t know what all the fuss is about. It looks good and has all the details to make it a good place to visit. And the siding will make it useful for a small engine the size of kilmersdon to do break van rides. Most people that criticsize have never built a station from nothing and never will do

I had City of truro fan on Ignore, but that meant not only that I was seeing posts that made no sense to me because they were responding to posts from him/her, but also that one whole thread that he/she started was invisible. So, reluctantly, I have cancelled the Ignore; but I wish there was a way to automatically hide all posts that mention K.......n.

Puzzled Gav. I called by there earlier this year and thought what a perfect location it was. Adjacent to a massive carpark and a very short walk to town.

Where would be better and why?

OK, maybe im wrong, but this is how i personally see it.

Broadway is easily accessible from the M5 and if you are coming from the North (there are big centres of population living there) its easy to drive down to to start your journey on the railway, or if you are starting elsewhere, Broadway is a massive tourist honeypot. The only downside is that it's a walk from the station to the town.

Corwen is not a tourist destination. Unless you all disagree and think its amazing. Most people who are visiting the area as a tourist/day tripper, will want to go to Llangollen and spend more time there, I know my wife would be very confused as to why I have taken her to this town when we already had Llangollen to visit. OK, so let's talk about starting your journey. Unlike Broadway that has good road access, you have to go past Llangollen to get to Corwen, and I can't see people doing that, so the large car park, in my eyes, at Corwen is not really going to be used. But maybe I'm wrong, time will tell.

However, my point is that if you were to have re built the bridge across (Ian you are right about would they have been able to get the additional money?) and been able to access the original station site, which is very easy to walk to the town should you so wish, means that there is a the possibility of being able to extend up to the old site past the station and put engineering or the loco sheds up that end, which would be better as you are no longer having to worry about noise from neighbours. And on top of that if you were to clear out Llangollen yard and turn it into a car park you could probably make well over 100k in carparking fees from the site, and turn the old goods shed into a museum or something of interest for people to visit.

However I know my ideas would cost a lot of money to do, but for the long term it would be far more sustainable. Which is actually a very important point.

Ok. You’ve given it much more thought than I have.

I was thinking people like me on holiday, or coach parties, looking for a easy parking and a round trip to somewhere interesting.

If I start at Llangollen I’m going to struggle to park and, as you say, I’ve got a trip to nowheresville.

Bit like NYMR - we’d never start from Whitby.

An observation based on my visits to the NYMR. Pickering is my nearest station, and I have to drive through to get anywhere else on the NYMR. But a combination of timetable and parking mean that it's often worth my while to drive to Grosmont rather than park at Pickering, despite it being 15 miles further each way.
