Sorry, no: all 8Fs were built and ran with Stanier 4000 gallon tenders. It was, I think, 1958 when the decision to swop these tenders from 8Fs for Fowler tenders from 5Xs. 8624 ran with Stanier tender 10354 up to November 1959, getting tender 4473 from 5612. On 26 January 1965 it acquired Stanier tender 10114, ex-8387. 8387 took the Fowler tender but was withdrawn at that time.

I got the information from a history of the class for modellers giving all detail changes in tabular form over the years. The date for the tender change is given as 11/50 so it looks as if the compiler has misread 1959 as 1950, Thanks for pointing that out

You're welcome. I'm in a rather privileged position with the 8F Society Archive, including all the Engine Record Cards!

As a matter of interest, why were Fowler tenders allocated to the 8Fs at that time?

I believe it was to give more flexibility to the Express passenger types where the need for the extra water and coal capacity was greater. Half a dozen also received Stanier 3500 gal tenders, the preserved 48305 is paired with one of these. Ten also ran with rebuilt tenders with 4000 gal: 7 ton capacity. LMS 2968 should be able to confirm if this is right

Oh, there's a Swindon time machine all right, but the calibration was set by the same watchmaker that Rous-Martin used; that crowd of strangely dressed spectators were all wondering what they were doing watching some pedestrian Dean Goods plodding up Wellington Bank on 16 January 1907 ... ;)
