B1's were sometimes referred to as Antelopes due to the names of many, though the final 17 (and 1 other) were named after people. Strang Steel is an odd name, sounding like the name of a company, but it's the surname of Sir Samuel Strang Steel, who was a big wig in the North East. Were those named directors of the LNER, like some A4's in the 1930's? It's notable that the locos were named in late 1947, shortly before nationalisation.
