Does anyone know if/what carriages the SVR is considering parting with? If not the case could someone knowledgeable state the true situation regards so called surplus stock.

Don't suppose there's much chance of the SVR selling some of its teaks to the GCR is there? After all the SVR is not an LNER line and nor is it in LNER territory, nor are any ex-LNER engines normally based there. Would be more appropriate but I can't see the SVR letting them go.

Wouldn't be much point even if they were available, which I'm certain they aren't - the GCR seems to be stuck in the 1950s rut and not bothered about using the ones they've got. The SVR appreciate theirs and make good use of them. If the GCR wants teaks it could invest in theo nes already on their line, but as I said, I don't think they're bothered.

The GCR do look after their teaks; unfortunately most are not passenger carrying vehicles but TPOs, full brakes, pigeon vans, etc so it's not practical to use them for the conveyance of punters.

Having just looked at the GCR Rolling stock trust site the feeling I get is that pogress is slow. One positive comment I would make is that if you added the Barnums to the passenger gresleys that are already there you could make a reasonably good passenger train which I feel would be a big attraction. The SVR would not get rid of anything that was running I am sure unless someone has fallen out with the line management. With credit to the LNER(SVR) coach fund they have managed to restore and run for many years at least seven vehicles and this alone is to be commended. Only they and the NYMR are manageing to run a Teak train on a regular basis. If at all possible olly5764 I would like to know whats happening especially if it involves pre nationalisation stock.

To qualify my last message, the above should relate to corridor stock. The VCT at Ingrow and the M and GN at Sheringham should also be commended for keeping the Mets and the Quad art in working order. Both have covered accomodation and this is a nesessary requirement for keeping wooded bodied vehicles in good working order.

Disn't the GCR promptly offer for sale a Gresley buffet car that was donated to thenm in running order? I know it was withdrawn from from sale after a protest by the donors, but it says a lot aabout the GCR management's attitude to vintage stock.

I doubt if the hard-working members of the LNER (SVR) Coach Fund will be too enamoured with TonyMay's comments above, inferring that the teak coaches are irrelevant to the SVR. I'm just looking at the pictures in the latest SVR News of 60163 and GNR 1744 on the teak set, looking absolutely superb. I hope Tony is campaigning for Sir Lamiel to be returned to the South, and the GCR to stop painting Mk1's green!
I doubt if the SVR itself owns any of the Gresleys, the majority are I think either owned by the Fund or privately.

Current projects by the LNER (SVR) Fund are to find funds to upgrade coaches 43600 and 52255 with the correct pattern internal fittings and so enhance their "Gresley" look and ambience.

The longer term project is to convert their Gresley pigeon van/full brake 70759 into a brake third, because the teak set is short of a suitable second brake. I think that still leaves the teak set one vehicle short, so if anyone has a spare Gresley or Thompson they dont want, then maybe the SVR would be a good home.

It is safe to say that it is not any of the operational coaches that are going. I am not in a position to say what is going, or even if the decission is final, but the coach concerened is unlikely ever to run again unless someone has a lot of money to spend on it

I *think* 2701, 24068, 24105, 70759 and 43600 are LNER (SVR) Coach Fund owned vehicles; privately owned are 7960 and 52255; and that SVR (Holdings) PLC does own two of the set, numbers 643 and 43612 (SVR Stock book, ninth edition).

Yes, you're right, the GCR don't need the stock now but will do in the future when the gap is bridged and the GCR become the biggest (and best) preserved railway in the Midlands.

As for Lamiel, I'd gladly swap 30777 with a Southern Region line (e.g. Mid Hants Railway) for an Eastern region engine, (say 60019). Wouldn't 60019, or the N2 (GCR-based if you hadn't noticed) or Tornado (replica of an LNER design, run in and tested on the GCR) look good with a rake of teaks, all of course in 1950s BR livery, on a double track ex-LNER main line?

Well as most of the teak coaches on the GCR haven't been restored yet, I suggest that you agitate for those to be done in BR livery rather than suggest wrecking the ones that have been done in teak. I'm sure that RVP will welcome your input!
