As there's no current equivalent to the thread under Steam Traction, I thought I would start one.

The WLA have a new website http://www.westernlocomotives.co.uk/
D1062 is now winterised and requires work on the B end bogie which is hoped to take place at the new Kidderminster depot. There are also appeals for new drive shafts and pre-heaters, see http://www.westernlocomotives.co.uk/appeals

Class 27 D5410 is expected to shortly leave for UKRail's Leicester site for repairs.

Class 50 50049 was started up on 31st October for the first time since 2012 after repairs to its engine.

The DMU is currently running as a 4 car with TBSL 59250 away for repainting.

Is the class 27 leaving a permanent move or will it be coming back to the SVR when repairs are completed ?

As is usual with most things SVR and the internet, information about the new diesel depot at Kidderminster appears only sporadically, despite D1039's best efforts. So can someone in the know kindly confirm progress with connecting the depot's rails to the track in Kidderminster yard please? The last report seen( 12th October) had just one track connected, at the turntable end.

With the weather on the turn I guess access is now wanted asap!

    Thanks

With winter arriving tomorrow by all counts, are any locos now residing inside the new diesel TMD at Kidderminster?

Don't think so just yet, it appeared there was some work still being done to the track by the south end of depot the other day.

Thanks. If that is so, its a shame, given that the first track, off the turntable, was connected over a month ago.

Lets hope the locos are suitably protected from this weekends "arctic blast".

An update elsewhere mentions that there is still work being carried out on the electrical systems e.g. lights, sockets, fire alarm, etc, hence why no locos are residing in the shed just yet. Fortunately, it's been very mild so far this winter (that'll sort it now...)

Two bits of news today as per FB:
50049 did a succesful run as far as Bewdley South's Outer Home signal (or should that be Home?)
And D7029 was the first diesel to be admitted into the new diesel depot.

Excellent news about the bringing into use of the Kidderminster diesel depot. Much volunteer input was required following handover from the contractors.

GW practice was Home followed byInner Home and this is followed at SVR. The first stop signal in the down direction at Bewdley is Bewdley South HOME. The bracket by the box carry Bedley South inner homes which also act as section signals. Bewdley South Homes are over Bewdley North distants. P3 distant is fixed

I thought it was, the post I was partially quoting said Outer Home, hence my query as I know the track layout reasonable well. I suppose a lot of people from the West Midlands might be more used to LM parlance than GW.

Not only LM but Southern as well. Is this another case of GWR had to be different

A question from the rules test - name all the signals you pass between Kidder and Bridgnorth starting from platform 1, and dont forget Northwood LC

Anyway, pictures posted on FB show that D8188 has been moving under its own power at Washwood Heath after moving there in June 2014 for work.

Will Westerns Ranger and Courier be moving to Kidderminster to benefit from the shed or remain on their own at Bridgnorth?

Courier is due to be using the jacks soon for work on its B end bogie. I suspect Ranger might move down for some work in the future but that's more a guess than anything else.
Of course the Diesel Shed is more for maintenance than storage as it would get rather crowded.
Btw, pictures on FB show the jacks have been delivered https://www.facebook.com/groups/2360466988/
