John Petley

I am the grandson of SECR/SR/BR(S) railwayman who was based at Ashford. I have loved trains since I was a child, particularly the Southern. I worked as volunteer at the Bluebell in my teenage years and loved it. I occasionally volunteer at the Spa Valley Railway and would love to volunteer more when I have the time - perhaps when I retire! Away from railways, I read music at Oxford University, and worked in IT for many years before going into research work. I am married to Katherine - a truly marvellous (and very patient) wife. We live in Cade Street, East Sussex - between Heathfield (LBSCR 227) and Warbleton (LBSCR 221). I am Evangelical Christian (Reformed Baptist). My other interests include classical music gardening, writing books, history and keeping guinea pigs.
