I think I'm going to assume that when it says "if you wish to vote by post", it is referring to voting by proxy, since if it does, and I haven't appointed a proxy, my vote is invalid, but if it doesn't and I have, then it doesn't matter. Let...

Have I got this wrong? According to the wording on the ballot papers, postal voting is now permitted, so although voters can, there is no need to appoint a proxy. That could cause some confusion on May 11...

Just looked it up. Stamp duty would be payable on a public house (inn) business. Not sure (exactly) on the rate it is payable but probably over £50K and perhaps as high as £80K and possibly higher. It does depend on how the figures are worked...

The paperwork for the AGMs has just arrived on my doormat in East Sussex. Bright yellow envelope so you don't miss it.

Many years ago I had go for work purposes to a place in the South Hams. I claimed - and was paid - for a steam train ride on the Paignton - Kingswear line and the ferry across to Dartmouth! And the return journey...

I'm not. The train is part of the work of the charity, so travelling on it is a means of experiencing that work. Full credit is due to those who've identified the opportunity.

There was an earlier discussion on this subject (about reclamation of Gift Aid on fares) on a different thread. The NYMR (amongst others) operates on that model (which is in itself interesting, since they are somewhat comfortably the largest...

Well, it was a request, not an instruction, but the email also says: P.S. If you know any Trust members who might benefit from this information, please feel free to pass it on to them. :)

Who knows? We will all find out what will happen soon enough. To some extent it may depend on who the new Trustee Board Members elect as their chairperson.

And perhaps you are wrong on all accounts, not good to assume. Meanwhile I think most have moved on from the animosity and sniping and looking forward to seeing what happens at the election, I feel quite positive about it.

15 months ago I joined the committee of a canal restoration society on its last legs that had become a 'gardening and tidying up club'. The Chair was protected by 4 stalwarts who had no new ideas and no desire to embark on any significant...

The EA chairman spoke to him directly by telephone. Apparently, he was due to go away on holiday the following day, so didn't have time, but also didn't feel he needed more than 150 words. We'll just have to wait for the official paperwork before...
