Reading through the UK steam tours list this morning i note that 35018 is listed for three tours on 6th, 9th and 16th December.

Nothing much has been said about progress on the Loco' lately so are we in for a surprise shortly ?

no it was 35018 and there has been some marketing suggesting 35018 would be out this year.

I guess it's running late, if 34046 is off up to Crewe too for the winter, then confidence must be pretty high there's enough around to cover for it.

The winter steam around London programme lacks ambition of previous years.

Definitely not 35028. Wrong TOC and MNLPS have already planned their winter workings with Belmond Pullman. Probably wishful thinking with 35018 appearing this year, or a ploy to increase interests in the tours.

I suspect it will be released to traffic on 1/4/2015 with oil firing and a half barrel bogie tender modelled on a "kriegslok".
Now where did that scrap 100 tonne oil car disappear to? Bogies, brakes and drawgear all ready for conversion. Oh yes, and painted black with red wheels and frame.......

    Cheers, Neil

I Think its a case of don’t expect anything until you see it in steam and then when it undertakes its light and loaded test runs, then and only then, should you expect to see it at the head of any tour the old saying, it will be ready, when its ready, and not when a tour operator hopes it will be availible

Usual Carnforth secrecy, I'm afraid. It'll emerge when it's ready, so best advice is to keep your eyes peeled on RTT for a potential test run when it is.

Picture of 35018 in the latest issue of Steam Railway looking substantially complete with boiler in the frames and motion on. Article by Tony Streeter who spoke to David Smith and Pat Marshall. Tony asked David if there was a timescale for completion and David said " No", but did go on to state " I did hope it would be running by now".

With in the next few years we could see 35005/06/18/28 all together. Now that would have a wow factor.

I think WCR are making a lot of friends at the moment in the south, with 5699 & 6115, this coupled with the Steam railway exclusive, the (what looks like) early 2017 entry of 35018 to the fray, Mr Smiths new outlook is looking quite a robust parry to the thrust of LSL into the marketplace.

It is great that they have finally let the LMS thoroughbreds go a bit further afield. Now us soft Southerners can appreciate their performances.
45699 was a revelation on Saturday although sadly she now seems to be out of action again and is heading back North. I hope 46115 stays in the South for a while. I wonder if she will be working The Dorset Coast Express programme?

Was there any mention of Southall in the SR piece, if WCRC lose that base the use of such loco's in the south could be very short-lived?

It's mentioned that the situation with Southall is in the hands of solicitors who have been left to sort it out, but they want a base in the South but maybe not as far south as Southall.

There's also more about West Coast in the upcoming edition of Rail magazine.

The ones I know of are
P&O, Clan Line, Port Line, Can PAC plus this one. Obviously others are being worked on but I'm guessing are a while off ??

Gav, I don't think Port Line is being actively worked on at the min.

Maybe engaging with enthusiasts in this way is a sign that there has been a realisation of how much in common WC has with the wider heritage railway community?
If this is the start of a new era of openness it will be a most welcome development, there is more to be gained by engaging than there is to lose.

Icons of Steam website states "Port Line is now owned by the Royal Scot Locomotive & General Trust and is awaiting its turn in the overhaul queue."

35022 and 35027 will not be restored/overhauled for some years. The latest update on the two loco's owned by Jeremy Hosking which was published in the Mags earlier this year stated that they had both been moved to Crewe for storage. At the moment they have gone to the back of the long overhaul queue at Crewe consisting of: 35028, 60532, 60019 & 5029. The newest member of the JH fleet, 45231 also requires work and replacement parts before it can return to traffic.
