All change 2014...

Prompted by the 44806 thread concerning NYMR locos, and the SVR and Bluebell motive power threads, it does look a bit like recent lean times are easing a bit (hurriedly touches every piece of wood within striking distance!)

So, as a general round up - what is coming in 2014? What's going? What does the likely fleet for various railways look like for next year?

I'll kick off for the Bluebell:

Coming: 541, B473 likely; 73082 possible; 5643 on hire
Going: Nothing is going out of ticket (usual caveats!) 45231 hire ends March 2014

Likely fleet by end of year:

847, 1638, 541, B473, 592, 263, 323, 178, 55, 3, possibly 73082. 5643 on hire.

What else can we expect to see next year, and what are we likely to be saying farewell to?

operational coming: dinmore manor 7820
new restorations: 2874, 44901
restorations likely to be finished within next season: 35006 P&O, 4270
ongoing restorations: 44027
leaving: 7903 foremarke hall for overhaul, 2807 tyseley for repairs (may not make it back for start of season)

likely fleet by end of the year:
7820, 35006, 4270, 5542, 8274, 2807

44027, 2874, 44901

 

This one's pretty easy! BHR:

Coming: Avonside 'Portbury' into service this year
Going: Peckett 'Henbury' out of ticket July 2014

 

Can anyone do the SVR, as that one I visit most often after my local, I'd be interested to know what locos in service currently, leaving joining, under restoration and static

 

For the NYMR, from the 44806 thread:

29, 7, 3395, 1264, 4806, 5428, 75029, 76079, hopefully 92214, and possibly 825 and 34101 towards the back end? As work on 76079 and 34101 comes to an end, the pace on 80135 and 30926 should increase.

 

SVR

In action on January 1st:
5164 ticket finishes
43106, 34053, 2857, 7812, 4566, 1501.
5643 (heading to the bluebell)
4936 (still here for Christmas, no date for leaving the railway)

Overhauls:
813, 34027, 7802, 7714 (all possible returnees in 2014)
4930 expected 3 year job
75069 as above.
42968 being prepared for overhaul
6634 restoration reached a stage where SVR staff cant progress without the boiler (based at Crewe).

 

On the Spa Valley I should think it will be Jinty out, J94 in.

 

Not forgetting the considerable efforts going into 4150 at Bewdley and 82045 at Bridgnorth - both have websites for the latest info.

 

What's the story with the Spa Valley Terrier? Last I heard it was under overhaul, but the SpVR website doesn't seem to have any news any more. Seems to be one of preservations forgotten locos.

On the Isle of Wight Steam Railway Terrier W11 Newport should return to steam complete with new boiler. This will mean the three original Island locomotives will all be operational for the first time since 2002.

 

Gwili for 2014 -

In use - Haulwen and Welsh Guardsman (worked first train today on the railway since 2007 following overhaul)

Under restoration- Olwen (Boiler work continues)

Visitor during part of the year: 7820 Dinmore Manor

MHR: 925; 850; 31806; 92212; 45379; 34007; and fingers crossed for an early Christmas present of 76017 (maybe, possibly, perhaps)

 

Has 44806 been confirmed with the NYMR? 31806 is only until October at the MHR isn't it? Or is it staying??
I would be interested to hear about the Spa Valley Terrier, gone a bit quiet?

 

Well the NYMR Trust Board has voted to accept its donation to the railway, so I think it is fairly certainly a done deal.

 

Work was ongoing last time I checked, but with priority being given to the J94 as the Jinty is nearing the end of its ticket and the Tkh is for sale.

 

What about 506? I thought it was nearer a return than 76017.

 

Does anyone know what is happening at the West Somerset? 9351 has been withdrawn, what is to replace it? Dinmore Manor would have been the obvious candidate but that is now going elsewhere.

 

31806 under contract until August.

506 was on track to appear about the same time as 76017 until the need to replace the front 1/3 of the frames was discovered. All bets off until that (considerable) bit of work is done. Boiler will be finished (bar tubing and pressure test) very soon, but we will await the frames being done before completing that work. It is hard to see 506 making an appearance in 2014, hopefully we may see it in 2015, but there can be no guarantees given the work needed.

 

Well, I would have thought it's place was being taken by 6960 Raveningham Hall, since I heard it was originally only staying for six months after being restored, but matters have clearly changed since then.

 

The PLC will just have to pay to use 88 3850 and 6960 more often.
