    Hello,

Can you help us out with a question?

    Many thanks.

I am sure someone more learned than me will give a full answer in due course, but the PRLCT website suggest BR Blue in 1950 and then BR Green in 1952: PRCLT Home

No it wasn't. 46233 never wore BR red.

I think he's getting at was it LMS red when the 4 was added sometime around 1948, I'd suggest it was either that or LMS Black at the time, BR Maroon only being applied to some well after nationalisation.

Dutchess of sutherland prefixed 4 was never in red/maroon livery. Is that correct?

    Many thanks

I've trawled through a few books and this is what i've come up with, so don't shoot the messenger!
6233 was new in 1938 and painted red.
She was painted LMS black in 1947 and given her BR number 46233 in October 1948 when still black.
In 1950 she was painted blue and then green in 1952.

Slight tangent, but how come BR allowed Duchesses to be painted Maroon anyway ?

local regions were given an ammount of independance , this is how the western painted mixed traffic locos green, the midland decided to outshop a few of its top link locos in maroon , its a pity that the other regions didnt, a rebuilt bullied in malachite but with BR style lining would have looked great as would / does a blue a 4

The red ones were the London Midland allocated Lizzies/Big Lizzies the Scottish allocated ones remained green.

IIRC, the maroon ones were used on the day trains, the green ones on the night trains. I seem to remember reading this in the late "Piccolo" Pete Johnson's memoirs.
