Flying Scotsman

A colleague of mine has stated more than once that many teak coaches didn't get painted for a long while, if at all. He says that they got painted at overhaul but if withdrawn by BR prior to any major works attention, they stayed in teak and thus BR liveried locos and varnished teak stock were seen together.

 

That's good to know, thank you. Makes a lot of sense in the great scheme of things when you factor in the cascading of Mk1 stock into the mainline rakes too.

 

Well unless someone invents paint that will stick to teak it isn't going to happen.

Oh and also not over my dead body!

Theres the Gresley Buffet (with handpulls!) at Sheringham and the Thompson Buffet at Llangollen both in Carmine and Cream and rather splendid pieces of kit they are too!

 

And E9214E at the GCR carried blood & custard livery in service. (My brain is telling me it also ran in maroon but I can't find any photos to prove it.)

 

Definitely ran in maroon paint late 90's

 

Nice to see we are now not debating the colour of the loco that hauls the stock we are on about

The NRM website does mention the January 23rd C. M. E. stating that it is a test run, with the loco still in black. The link to the RYTC website has the opt out clause that should 60103 not be ready the train will be in the hands of 45407 and 44871

On the west-somerset-railway-association-matters thread I queried Snifter's referring to "the newbuild A3 Flying Scotsman".

While it may be true that little if any of the Flying Scotsman that is soon due to emerge onto the network will be original from when the loco was first built, surely not all that much of it will be completely new either, most of the parts dating from previous repairs, rebuildings, etc.

 

I think you are subjecting my post to a level of rigorous intellectual analysis far in advance of what it warranted, or indeed was intended!
