Very good point. From a strict conservationist point of view, one could argue that the NRM should have conserved her as she was at the moment when they first acquired her - I.e., air-brake only and in apple green but with double chimney and deflectors. I hasten to add that I'm glad they didn't; I'm merely making the point that strict historical authenticity is not always possible or even desirable, and museums sometimes have to make compromises.

Personally I quite like the chuff-chuff sounds from the air pumps.

Currently out of action due to a problem found during scheduled maintenance. The repairs are already underway and should be completed in 3 weeks in time for it to go to the Bluebell Railway.

 

What was the problem?

 

Required new valve/cylinder liners and maybe new rings. Hopefully to be finished by the end of this week prior to testing and its visit to the Bluebell

 

That in turn invites the question why those parts have worn out in what seems a fairly short amount of running.

 

Didnt she go through a set of rings, quite quickly after restoration, although, i do think she has been used extensively this year.

 

Repairs to 60103 now complete, ready for testing and a trip to the Bluebell Railway.

 

This popped up on Facebook earlier. I don't remember seeing any tours being advertised with it down this way. Oh, they're plugging the engine and coach move on Monday night!

Any thoughts about the very uneven sounding exhaust in the latest videos on the Waverley Tours 2023 thread?

 

Struck me as being unusual too....

 

3 cylinder loco being worked hard on full regulator with a short cut-off (probably?), from the videos sounds fine to me.

The Germans produced an analysis of this phenomenon and as we are not dealing with three identical cylinder, valve and steam passageway arrangements -------------.

 

It looks like 60103 has been involved in an incident. More news to follow.
