Head Boards

Like the Carry on Clagging headboard.

 

I love that Headboard!! Suits the 37's well!

I think some take these headboards far too seriously!

 

These two examples do appear to have been used during light-engine movements, the headboards perhaps manufactured primarily for display during transfer journeys from/to Bury ... and no-one in their right mind (oops, perhaps I should not have used such terminology on this forum!) could possibly object to that!

Indeed, we should be particularly fortunate that some loco owners DO possess a sense of humour .... when, very clearly, others do NOT!

 

The "Carry on Clagging" headboard seems to be part of a wider conspiracy - it's promoting a series of DVDs about diesels. [-( 8-[

I think the idea of the Carry on Clagging headboard, is for it to be filmed on as many locos as possible, for the popular Carry on Clagging series (aswell as the Steam edition of the programme)

I am led to believe that the owning group noisyest / dirtyest / claggyest loco with the headboard on, will recieve donation from Visions-international.

 

I've seen the same board carried in pictures of the Deltics when new so I'm 100% sure it looks authentic on 60007 or 60163, On the other hand your looking at a Pacific on a single track branch in North Yorkshire so I wouldn't worry too much about what headboard it's carrying if you're looking for accuracy

I have joined this forum to support a novel scheme with regard to the Carry on Clagging headboard, the idea is that every loco that carries the headboard before the end of August '09, steam or diesel will take an equal share of the money raised by a Visions sponsorship scheme, which currently stands at £1000 (donated by Visions) and will hopefully grow soon.

Yes this is obviously a blatant publicity scheme (which I am sure they will be the first to admit), but Visions have pumped thousands back into preservation already. The Class 40 Preservation Society, Deltic 22 and the Battlefield Line Railway have all benefitted so far. I also understand that they are interested in supporting a steam loco.

Whilst they are a commercial company (producing an excellent product) and need to make money, I think Visions are at least making an effort to support preservation and that alone should be commended.

Good luck to them and i hope they raise loads of cash with their headboard plan.

It's all getting more than a bit OTT when even light engines cannot move anywhere without a headboard!!

 

Why is it ?

 

light engine with headboard is a good photo opportunity and even with a support coach. But it is set out for what is planned for the day.
