Slightly cheaper than the terraced house next door - maybe I could put it down the garden and put my mother inlaw in there doing it up for a while!!

As a friend of mine says "£95k, that's no problem, I don't have that much money, so ......!"

That's a lot of money to start with, and other potential problems and yet more money, before you'll see any return.
Note to self - moving doors, might alter things ie authenticity. hhhmmmm..... no, on second (third) thoughts, I'll give that one a miss...

Maybe if it included the land it was sitting on and part of a larger project.. but just for a gutted coach, stripped and painted ?..
Wasnt Butterley advertising a gutted Mark 1 for £4k just recently.

This vehicle was at the GCR I think . The £95k price being asked seesm to represent the business return potential from a holiday let . Totally unrealistic though

I've been following this developing on castoff, same link strangely, must be a revision http://www.castoff.net/item/Kj7b5EAw3f6QZn8/ mainly cos I'm a bit of a nosey so and so and lo and behold the price has just dropped a full 20k!! in 4 weeks time I might even be interested at that rate. It would also make 9 8' sheds by my reckoning.

It is ex-GCR and ex-RVP and it's a shame they've buggered about with it, when it left the GCR it was fully externally restored (albeit due for a repaint) and the original interior was all pretty much there, albeit not all re-fitted following asbestos removal. With all that done, it had every chance of being a good bet for a long-term survivor of the type. But the way they've hacked it about, I just can't see any railway taking it on. What a waste.

I wouldn't bank on that mate, some of the challets in the Bewdley area change hands for as much as this, they are much smaller, and less substantial, and not inhabitable all year round.

Iv been in contact with the owner of this carriage and they said it was riddled with asbestos thats why they had to gut it, if the price dropped a bit more i recon it would be a good buy, dont you guys?

It's quite possible they found asbestos in it (although I thought it had been stripped by RVP, one of whose members was a professional asbestos removal contractor) but I don't really think that can justify the asking price. Asbestos is one of those areas where you can never expect to recoup what you spent. It would be a lot cheaper to start with a coach that didn't have asbestos, and that's what they are competing against - plus sleepers, with their tiny windows, aren't great for holiday homes, they're OK for bedrooms but a bit claustrophobic for living areas, so more expense needed to replace them, when a Mk 1 open would be far easier to convert..

Yes a little bit of homework and it is definitely raileisure's they must have changed their minds or run out of cash for the full project. As town station says the carriage is listed twice now, with and without land but I reckon it'd take 30k or so to make the carriage a truly habitable home. I've seen worse buys around than this now and if the owner keeps dropping chunks off it may be worth the effort. I don't know if this link will work or if I'm open to copyright problems but if it does open it shows full plans of the carriage as a living unit.
