Where is this Howarth shed you keep referring too? I've heard of Haworth on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, but Howarth is a new one on me :)

  3. Hi Daniel, Howarth is my miss spelling (writing it as it sounds) it is of course spelt Haworth and it is the main motive power depot for the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. It is situated just to the north west of the station beyond the coal yard and car park. Here's a map. The red arrows show the station and shed (MPD in modern terms) and the purple arrows show some good viewing a photographic points. Hope it helps, sorry about the miss spelling, local yokel you see. If you follow the road outside the station having turned right on exit you walk up a few hundred yards to the corner where the Fire station is and you will get your first view of the yard. Best viewing point is on the road bridge which goes up to Haworth village.

I always found it pronounced and spelt Haworth, and the best viewing point from the yard itself....

Where is this Keithley that you refer to? It may be near Howarth, but there's nowhere by that name anywhere near Haworth!:D
(Having carefully checked spelling before posting.)

    Near Hingrow and Hoakworf?

  7. Yep were all capable of it from time to time. Old fingers too dashing over the keyboard often race ahead of the brain.

  8. A recent reply from another old codger like me referred to and engine being overaled LOL. Must have been a big boiler suit that.

  9. I was up a Oxenhope yesterday on the K&WVR. Derby 4F 43924 was running and looking great in the winter snow. No stoppages here for snow, right snow or wrong snow'. They are running a full timetable up to and including Sunday 4th Jan. For this week 43924 is taking the load but on Sat and Sun the Draper Black Five is out so should be some good photo opportunities. I got some Video yesterday and posted it on my blog (don't know how to put video on here). In the yard at Oxenhope were the USA dock tank and Manchester ship canal 0-6-0 shunter Hamburg in a position we could photograph them. When they are in the exhibition it gets a bit crowded for good pictures.

Wrong Dock Board. Hamburg was a Manchester Ship Canal loco.

  11. Many thanks for that. Facts duly corrected.

In the reply box if you click the icon 5th from the right along the top this will give you the option to embed a video on here. They need to be hosted on the following -
What you do then is copy and paste the url of the video on one of those sites into the box which will appear after clicking the aforementioned icon and click OK. The video will then be embedded in your post ;)

It does seem the KWVR is one of the few railways to be really well positioned for number of operational locos it has to hand, am I right in thinking most days their is only one steam loco out, and on a few days 2. In comparison to the number of locos which is 8 (including 75078 and 45305), this is much better than most other lines at the moment!

  14. Oh many thanks for that. I am not an expert and sort of plod my way through these things.

  15. At the moment as we are just about at the end of the running season that is true. During the summer season I have seen as many as three locos running on the same day. Often they slot the coal tank in between two larger engines, the coal tank hauling the vintage carriage set with sometimes the crew and staff dressed to suit. You are of course right in that K&WVR do have a good stable of engines now. Maybe when they get the Taffy tank No 85 finished that might also be seen in the roll of the coal tank, though the staff at Haworth tell me it is a stronger engine than the coal tank and so might be reserved for quieter mid week days with a set of four. Looking at the progress which you can see on my blog it might not be too long before we see 85 in steam.

Yes - I wasn't aware the KWVR had a 'running season. They've always prided themselves on running steam all year round.

  18. Yes your quite correct and I shall stand corrected on that, I was mentally thinking of the busy season. There is of course some trains running every weekend and the vintage carriage trust have a weekend on the 10th Jan with the winter festival in Feb on 27th 28th and 1st of March. So your quite correct there will be plenty to see. You never know Std class 4 75078, though I have no intelligence of it.

The webpage for the KWVR Winter Gala says that 75078 should be running at that event and that it's already had a steam test and a run up to Haworth (checks spelling carefully) - I assume from Keighley (checks that one too...) so looking promising.
