The Margam stored 37s have been heavily robbed and stripped of copper by the local pikey's, same with the 56s at Healey Mills.

Im sure the Scrapman will be busy over the christmas period, and of course....plenty of spares will be available, so stock up

 

As 60052 says, many have been stripped of expensive to replace copper wiring etc. Don't we really have enough of these locos in preservation already?? A good opportunity to buy either a loco for stripping or acquiring important parts whilst they are still readily available.
I would be suprised if any of the Margam/Healey Mills examples get preserved.
There are better ones still to come yet if anyone is daft enough still to want one. Lots of preserved railways are now putting up the 'full' signs and even clearing out basket cases which are never going to get restored, be it locomotives, carriages or wagons.
So think carefully before you submit that tender form!!

 

removing them "without any assistance" could prove tricky too unless they are right next to a conveniant loading point. Does that mean they will get chopped where they stand?

 

For removal from Margam or any other place by Rail, you will need to get a FTR and UAT's, up to date certificates etc and then there's the cost of finding a TOC to assist in the removal. All of which as you can guess is a very expensive option.

Removal by road is usually the preferred choice of movement by Scrapyards and preservationists, which will acquire assistance (at cost) from where it is currently stored to a safe disposal/loading point where it can be loaded onto a low loader.
