Is this a new one, or a legacy of the previous Claud/J38/L1/L1 groups ?

Has a familiar flavour about it. Turn to the "About us" section and it says "under construction"!

A Trust? Aren't there various financial, taxation, constitutional hoops to jump through in that regard? Where would you go to see if they really were a trust - the Charity commission?

Also, is it just me, or is setting getting a certain number of "likes" on Facebook as a target not quite the same thing as something a bit more, well, tangible? (P2 Trust - "Let's get 100 founding members to stump up £1,000 each so we can order the frames". Mission accomplished. L1 Trust - "Let's get 100 likes on Facebook by the end of next week"...)

Anyway, I give it about two months of activity on social media, and then it'll go the way of the Dean Goods, J39 ...

Very little happening with a "trust" formed back in October.
    Zero credibility so far Guys.

Wasn't this the L1 trust that stated out as an LNER L1, then a few weeks later decided a Southern L1 would be better as they found a spare LMS fowler tender, they wanted to buy the tender, overhaul it and rent it out to earn funds to build the a Southern L1.

The plans fell apart when it was pointed out that Hornby used a fowler tender on the Southern L1 because it saved money, not because it was historically correct.... Not that the spare tender was scrap and what few bits were stripped from it for 2 others.

The original L1 project (LNER / SR) was one of Stuart Reeder's projects, wasn't it? (Last heard of promoting a Dean Goods new build). This one seems to be run by someone called "James Ascough" (reading back through their Facebook page) - not sure if they are associated, or whether this is an entirely new Facebook newbuild?

Incidentally - if the GWR Dean Goods FaceBook page "likes" the L1 project; and the L1 project "likes" the Dean Goods project, does that mean that both projects have moved a step closer to completion? Construction, one "like" at a time...

Being a supporter of all things Southern I might have been interested. however being a cumudgeonous old fart I have no intention of using Facebook or Twaddle sorry twitter. From other forums I find I am not alone. Therefore how many of the old farts like me wo just about remember SR 4-4-0s have they excluded from showing an interest at a stroke.

James Ascough is a young lad who first set-up the Dean Goods new build wanting to buy the Pontypool Boiler, and even got himself an interview with SRM. For whatever reasons though he "resigned" from the Dean Goods Project last year.

Mr Reeder was indeed the person behind the first L1 proposal as mentioned by ADB968008 (and numerous other fantasy new builds). Tempted to say this appears to be the latest one. When will they learn?

James Ascough appears to be connected with the Mid-Hants. I think you may be thinking of James Littlewood who jointly set up the Dean Goods project MK1 in March 2013 (10 months) and then suddenly left the project without explanation.
The project appears to have been at a standstill since that time.

Mr Reeder then set up the Dean Goods project MK2 in August 2013 (5 months) to build a new loco when it appeared that Dean Goods project MK1 was going to attempt to restore 2516 instead of building anew.
This project also appears at a standstill apart from the already noted clamour for 'Likes'.

The L1 project (MK1 - LNER) is now defunct and achieved nothing during its existence.

The L1 project (MK2 - Southern) is now defunct and achieved nothing during its existence.
    Website: None
Prospects for a working loco: 0%

The L1 project (MK3 - Southern) has been in existence since October 2013 (3 months) and appears to have achieved nothing except for 87 'Likes' on Facebook.
    Website: http://l1trust.org.uk/
Prospects for a working loco: 0%

The J50 project has been around since April 2013 (9 months) and appears to have achieved nothing except for 123 'Likes' on Facebook.
    Website: None
Prospects for a working loco: 0%

The infamous J39 project was created in July 2011 (2 years 6 months) and appears to have achieved nothing except for 225 'Likes' on Facebook
The project appears to have been reduced to one individual (Tim Clarke), who is doing an engineering course and is hoping to use the college facilities to produce small parts.
    Website: No longer working
Prospects for a working loco: 0%

The Claud Hamilton project was established in May 2011 (2 years 5 months) and has produced some 3d renders of various parts, a wooden nameplate and not much else.
    Website: http://www.claudhamiltonlocomotivegroup.co.uk/
Prospects for a working loco: 10%

The above is just my opinion of course and I've only included projects which seem to be reliant on Facebook, - other projects such as the A1/P2, Patriot, Brown Bear etc are all making good progress by having solid plans behind them and not hoping that 'Likes' will buy them a loco!

Didn't the lner l1 migrate to the southern L1 via a suggestion on a Facebook page of a major preserved railway suggesting that it would be built with a tender and modified boiler, so it could run that line...

And then the suggestion they do a southern l1 on here met with " ah that's a good idea", then that project changed and the pictures on Facebook.

The j39 was to be named after someone's dad too...

    The lesson here...

What you say behind the bike shed during playtime, should not reach the internet...

Words I wrote on the internet in 1991 are still out there when I google them, fortunately they weren't something to haunt me ..god help the kids of today in 20 years time.

I'm sure there'll be a rash of Farcebook new-builds from Stuart et al every time a new Hornby catalogue comes out. These jokers do nothing but harm to the credibility of 'new-builds' and preservation as a whole. Ray.

Sorry yes, I stand corrected. It turns out I'd actually added James Ascough at some point on Facebook. Seems a nice lad, though that will never be enough to complete a new build. Can't see it getting off the ground tbh.

To be honest I would doubt that their influence spreads far enough to cause harm to anything, except maybe their own ego.

    Don't underestimate it.

If one s.reeder sent me a cv in a few years time having graduated, and I read this forum, remember that, will that influence his career direction.
Maybe one of his future mates finds it and uses it to publically slate him amongst his peers ? Will that affect him? (How often do we gear of Cameron's oxford days in the paper... That will only get worse as Facebook and Twitter store archives infinitely.. Even after you delete it from public view).
Anonymity on the internet is often a good thing.
