Thank you to Eveyone at the RH&DR for a good trip on sunday the 12th October.

Just a quick question.

Why does the loco disconnect at the loop and join the other end of the train?

I wasn't around on the day you mention but assuming you mean at Dungeness it is likely because the coaches need to be in a specfic order when they arrive back at New Romney. For instnce if the Bar Car was at the Dungeness end of a terminating Up train at New Romney i.e. at the New lighthouse end at Dungeness station, the shunt release to get the Bar Car is more alkward than shunting it off the front of the train (with the loco) and then dropping it off as the loco goes on shed. So to make life a little simpler the loco will run around Dungeness loop then reverse back from Britania points and attach to what was the rear of the train when it arrived. Sometime it is also due to the fact that the school train coaches are needed in a specfic order and continuing around the loop would put the train back to front.

It wasn't so nice last Saturday, 56 miles on Southern Maid in the heavy rain, I have to keep reminding myself that i do this for fun

 

I havn't been on the RH&DR in ages, I need to go again.

 

Definitely something different - the whole area is fascinating. Try to go there when 'The Bug' is working.

The Bug is rostered for workings to Dungeness on Sundays 4th and 11th January; diesel hauled on return because loop not operational.

Hi guys can anyone tell me a bit more about the Pacfic that is covered in sheeting at New Romney? I am told it was something to do with a former Director who is no longer with the railway due to him dying, a bit of history about said loco would be nice please. =P~
