Agreed. It becomes pointless looking through the site if the threads degenerate into waffle and silly comments with no real news or content.

Disagreed.

It's a forum, and all forum threads do this. I belong to several different railway, canal and motoring sites and they're all the same. Once you accept that, it becomes part of the fun.

If you want up-to-date gen then look for a very recent thread. Don't dig up one from months ago because it'll invariably be completely adrift.


If the reality doesn't match your expectations, which is easier - changing your expectations, or changing reality? I know which one gets my vote.

Lighten up.

 

This is all a little light-hearted at present, partly, I suspect, because of the po-faced comments elsewhere recently...particularly by some who have, it seems, been comprehensively stitched up by one or two members of this parish!

Mike, there's been nothing reported that would suggest problems, so I suspect that 'no news is good news'

It has been a month since we saw her test run. Is there still a big list of adjustmets being made . It will be great when we see her out powering trains, not that there is a hurry.

I have heard lineside reports that problems have been identified with the tyres and a return to the main will presumably need to await the fitting of new tyres and - possibly - a further test run ?

 

Think the Scot will take a back seat until 45699 and 35018 are in service now. That middle engine issue is not sorted and now tyres are rumoured as well. An intermediate overhaul might be undertaken to eliminate the root causes.

 

35018?? I know that somone said on this forum that when work stopped on this engine at the Mid-Hants she was only about a year away from steaming, but I wasn't expecting British India Line to steam for another 2-3 years at the earliest, as the loco would have deteriorated in the meanwhile, and extra work would be required to bring her up to main line standard as opposed to 25mph running on the MHR. It would be a pleasant surprise to see her in action sooner than I had expected, but Carnforth being Carnforth, we'll just have to wait and see - she'll be ready when she's ready. Another main line "Merchant" would be very welcome - especially if she performs as well as Clan Line.

It sounds like an oh dear moment. I thought she steam brilliantly last month too. I had my hopes up to.

Patience - they say that the best things in life are worth the wait. Given WCRC expertise with steam traction to date I feel sure that the wait will be worth it although linesiders may despair at the timescale. Just remember the WCRC mantra - it will be ready when it's ready !

Does Anyone think that 46115 shall be ready for the Climbs up Shap and Beattock on the Great Britain Tour? I'm a little surprised that she has been the engine proposed for Use out of Preston on the day.

 

Here are 67 photos of 46115 in preservation, beginning with a few taken at Haworth in 1967-68, then from 2004 to the latest test run last February. The photos have been seen before but this is the first time I have brought them all together:

Good to see the footage of Scots Guardsman out on test today, in What's going on'

 

Footage of 46115 on her mainline loaded test run today 5/6 13 at Starricks Farm near Borwick .

 

Albeit the fire hazard and all, It is nice that the Scot is holding up pretty well this year for a change.
