Hello all,

Not sure if this could be made a sticky but I've given this a go - below is all the tours listed (that I can find) so far for the coming year.
This information may well be elsewhere on this site that I'm not aware of, but with no sign of updates to the UKSteam.info site I've trawled the web to hopefully capture all the currently advertised mainline tours.

Seems like a lot of tours for a dwindling number of Steam locos,

surely less is more, until the numbers are back up. If they ever get back up,

I make that around one trip per month on average for the first nine months of 2020 for the fifteen or so active main line locos south of Fort William. A couple of thousand miles each. Some like Tornado will be a lot higher, others like the Princess and Bahamas a lot lower. But as an average, that seems a reasonable balance between famine and excess. How well the market holds up is another question.

PS The GB 2020 is missing from the very useful list.

Hmm - interesting - I swear that page must have only recently been completed as I looked at that site only a couple of days ago and there was nothing listed for 2020 and only contained old historical information for 2019. Hey ho - nothing ventured nothing gained.

 

One comment I can make is that its good to see Steam Dreams doing some short two hour trips at about £50/time

Affordable in terms of time and money, and of course improving the use of the loco & stock

 

Updated and amended - this was Pinned at one point - but appears to have now been removed - is there a reason why the "LE" thread remains pinned in the "What's Going On" thread but a tours list doesn't?

 

I'm not sure RailAdvent is too reliable a source, is it? The best I've found is Railway Herald (http://railwayherald.com/railtours) which covers diesel tours as well as steam. Perhaps we should have a pinned thread with links to the railtour company websites and RH, rather than try to have our own comprehendive list of steam railtours?

Alternatively, perhaps we can use this forum's Events facility? Maybe @dublo6231 and others would like to experiment with this? We need a number of categories, to avoid unnecessary confusion:

• Mainline public railtours
• Mainline ECS/LE/other
• Preserved line/museum special events

What we really need is for @gwr4090 to return to full health and resume his excellent uksteam.info service - or for someone equally dedicated to volunteer to take it on. Get well soon, David.

I'd second that - nothing else has come close to his UKSteam.info. but that's not as important as his recovery.
