Hi All,

I have been scowering the internet for images of the MOD ordered / NBL built stanier 8f locos in service on the lms in the early 40s. So far I haven't had any luck. So my question is, does anyone on here have any images of the locos in question?

I am particularly interested in WD 552 and 554 as they don't appear to have been assigned temporary LMS numbers as the rest of them had.

As the Archivist for the Stanier 8F Locomotive Society, I have some such photos, but very few; you will appreciate that railway photography during WWII was not encouraged, even if film were available. There are none of the two you mention.

J.W.P Rowledge's book on the 2-8-0s built for the War Dep't indicates that 549 to 555 worked out of Kingmoor. As you say, 552 and 554 were never given an LMS number before shipment to Turkey. In Turkey they received Turkish Railway's numbers 45169 and 45170, respectively.
Of course, 45170 is still with us. It is preserved at the S.R.P.S. Bo'ness.
