Hope this isn't a repeat of a previous thread, I checked, honest!

By all accounts, 35027 "Port Line" is on her way to Riley's Works for restoration to mainline standard.

Hooray! Haven't seen this loco since its Bluebell days.

Lets hope that it spurs on Ian to get a move on with 35009 and in answer to 34007 i would guess that the owner having had one bad experience to do with where she is , doesnt want to repeat it? at least with ian Riley you wont get any un expected shocks

I thought that I had read that the "replacement" boiler is going to or has gone to Crew for repair? The very real possibility of two or even three main line registered MN's out and about on the Big Railway is really rather good.

As you can guess, she's my favourite loco, despite having very little recollection of her running on the Bluebell and I was only about 7/8 years old when she moved to the Swanage.

Dug out my only photo of her, on the tram line at Sheffield Park presumably shortly before leaving. http://www.flickr.com/photos/spinner673/3567863842/

Riley & Son seem to have done a very good job of 34067 during her restoration (which was completed around 2003 if memory serves), so it makes sense to give 'em another Bulleid to play with. It will also provide valuable information for the restoration of Mr. Riley's 35009, particularly as 35027 is an almost complete (albeit tired) locomotive. I say good luck to Ian and his gang, and I hope to see 35027 where she belongs- plying her trade on the national network!

Post-edit: I also only have one rather blurry photo of 35027 in the sidings at Swanage, the ones out towards Herston. I never had the opportunity to experience an MN on a preserved railway, and the first time I ever had a ride behind one was 35028 in November 2009. So naturally, any MN scheduled for resotration provides interest...

Is there a source for the movement to Riley's or is it just a rumour at the minute?

if riley likes it once its restored you might not get it back , i think your all getting a bit greedy at Southall , isnt 60019 enough for , you now you want 70000 and probally 6100 any ideas on time span for 35027 after all she is complete and didnt see that much use so mechanically shouldnt be too bad, but of course it depends on the quality of the work done first time round seeing as she was the first ex Barry MN to be restored

Mr R also mentioned that there would be 4 MNs at Bury soon but wouldn't confirm which ones (other than what's been announced).

35009 already there, 35027 is confirmed, 35022 quite likely as a source of spares. I wonder if 35018s time has finally come ... ? :)

Has mr R seen the light ? whats the odds that very soon we will see 2 black fives for sale, one very carefull owner, low milage if 35018 is the other, it should if its period in open storage hasnt effected baring surfaces to much be a quick job, except that the chinese motion will be no good if the owner has plans to go main line

Could also be 35025 which was for sale a couple of years back (not sure of the situation now), or 35010 for cylinder repairs/investigation, 35011 to receive a wheelset from 35022 as payback for the donated wheelset to 34046 or something as simple as 35028 coming for a minor repair or visit to the ELR! Lots of possibilities!

It is interesting that Ian has said that 35022 is coming for "evaluation and preliminary works" - to me that implies more of a long term future for the loco than many had previously thought possible.

You never know, it might just be 35029 visiting Riley & Son if its taken off display at the NRM (I haven't found out whether it figures in the upcoming exhibit reshuffle, or whether its going for storage)! Was the main reason for sectionalising 35029 (other than the fact that there are 11 MNs still in existence) the poor condition of its boiler/firebox?

I'm intrigued as to what the fourth MN will be...

If 34027 Taw Valley's boiler and firebox ends up being 90% brand new during its current comprehensive overhaul/restoration/re-rebuild as has been mentioned in some of the railway press, then there is always hope for 35022. It will be left with 35027's old boiler, the firebox of which is beyond economical repair by all accounts, but its really a question of how much money Mr. Hosking is willing to throw at it. In any case, 2011 is rapidly becoming the year of the Merchant Navy class ;) .
