Nice videos, so glad to see her back.

Can anybody advise of good photospots for the test run tomorrow, which are within reasonable distance of public transport ( mainly train services ). I'll be travelling down from Cowdenbeath, so don't know the area as well as I would like to.

    Thanks

You have 2 options if coming from Cowdenbeath :

    (1) Train to Carlisle then local train to Longpreston for shot as train comes through at 12:43 or to Hellifield for arrival at 12:44 departure at 13:44

There is no decent bus service between Hellifield and Clithero ( or other stations in Ribble Valley ) that would meet the Test train schedule so then

    (2) Train to Preston then train to Blackburn then hourly Clitheroe service to Ribble Valley station. Personal choice would be to detrain at Lango for Test Train passing at 14:19; there is a booked stop at Blackburn ( 14:38 - 15:23 ) and Preston ( 15:57 - 16:13 ) but these are not guaranteed if a path becomes available.

If at Langho a local enthusiast might be willing to give a lift to another location but be alert that road conditions are uncertain as it is dependant on local council gritters.

Hope this helps as Cowdenbeath is a long travel to see one steam loco - just make sure to stock up at Dick's before you leave

Thanks Fred, yes, it does help.

I was coming to the conclusion that I might have to confine myself to station shots instead of getting anywhere which was a semi-decent location in a field of a sort where the engine would definately be working. Having misplaced my gradient profile book somewhere, I'm at a complete disadvantage.

And yeah, it may be a long way to travel for one steam engine. But I have roots back with 44871 when she was based at Bo'ness for a while, so it would be nice to go see her again seeing as I have the time off to do so :)

I shall probably be at Langho, OK so it's only a station shot but fairly long approach and a good gradient, with speed restriction at the bottom as well. On this occassion the weather was terrible, wind and rain, hopefully tomorrow will be more photogenic. I have just realised that at Langho you can go to the west of the line into the fields, I have seen shots taken from there.

As I will then be heading South I could offer you a lift to somewhere like Pleasington with a chance to see her again before a train on to Preston. Every hour about 20 minutes to.

It is now 21:00 on Monday night and I have just had an e-mail to advise that Test Train will be diverted from normal circuit to a straight run over Shap ( presumably Carnforth - Carlisle ) but I am still awaiting confirmation and times.

Nothing like a baptism of fire to sort the men from the boys.

Seriously though, 44871 is looking magnificent and I am sure that the Riley & Sons team have done a first rate job on the locomotive.

    Regards,

    Dam

Shap sounds good today i think

Its also worth watching the 1S10 Warrington RMT - Shieldmuir extra mail as it could have AC 86702 on it (Ta Guy/37001 on scot-rail.co.uk)

  19. any times though?
