    Sorry

This was not about the tour companies advertising or anything. It is just a simple question. I don't expect 1,2,3 bingo ever in preservation at all.

I'm not an international multi-millionaire. If you were to meet me you would find a nice outgoing personality who is crazy about trains.

Many things would be nice, but bluntly, I fear you won't get that until 2016...
To highlight just one variable I'm not sure (admittedly speaking from a position of almost complete ignorance on the subject) that they'll be able to be fully confident that her revised draughting will do the job until she has completed a fully loaded test run.

The owners and folks overhauling the loco are under no obligation to make any commitments whatsoever, bluntly.

BLUNTLY, if some of the whiners would like to come and help, change a heavy rear 34 leaf spring (that takes 4 men to lift),... spend hours shunting the loco back and forth while adjusting and weighing the loco using spanners and bars in excess of 5 foot long,... finish off fitting the TPWS, OTMR then getting it officially tested and passed by the VAB,... then fit the brick arch,... test the blast new pipe at Didcot, then if it's ok,... arrange with another rail connected railway that can accommodate high speed running, a further blast pipe testing visit, including arranging the haulage to said railway and pay for it,... then finally arrange a loaded test run if the blast pipe proves ok under heavy load conditions (and also those cost implications),...
then and only then will you have the right to demand information.
The team working on it is only small, it'll take all of them to change the spring alone! So one job at a time. I'm sure they would welcome help from any non armchair enthusiast with engineering knowledge of which is the business end of a screwdriver!
As I've said before, watch the GWS and 6023 websites not the train operators wish lists.

And passengers are, bluntly, under no obligation to book on any tours it runs when they come around, if they come around! (Membership organisations probably are under some reporting obligations, but to their members rather than the whole WWW!)

No dig at the GWS, who are taking a responsible attitude in the circumstances, but rather at those who, in the main, jump on somebody looking for certainty rather than explaining politely why that isn't at present possible.

Personally, this weekend I'll be fixing the roller shutter door thats letting the rain blow in on the gang working on 6023! (that is, after I've sharpened my blunt thing).

Agree with what you say Steven, however, in this case the tone of the request for information perhaps didn't merit the polite advisory reply it might otherwise have received.

Can't disagree with that either but again the phrasing was fairly plain on this occasion. As pannier man has responded, it clearly led to a certain inference that caused exasperation. Borne of well intentioned anticipation and impatience probably, frustrating nevertheless.

Went to Didcot yesterday and 6023 was in the workshop on what appears to be the newly-installed weighing device.

I'm puzzled by the comments concerning the rear springs. Surely given the position of the firebox and the overhang behind the rear drivers, there is bound to be more weight on the rear springs? No amount of spring adjustment will move that weight forward! Surely the whole point of weighing a loco is to distribute the weight ACROSS the axles?
